Morrowind: Wizards' Islands Mod Released

The team behind Wizards' Islands: Scourge of the Frost Bringer has released their gigantic mod. Weighing in at 611Mb compressed -- or around 1.2Gb unpacked -- the mod offers a new island with around 400 cells, 20-30 hours play, along with "questing and plotline interactions that bear more resemblance to Black Isle games than the crude generic dialogue of Morrowind, with custom dialogue for all NPCs and a strong party based main quest dynamic."

Follow the link for a torrent link, along with mirrors. This will take some serious hardware - apparently most of the textures are 512x512 and players can expect around half the framerate of a normal Morrowind game. The Tribunal expansion is required but not Bloodmoon.

Half the FPS of Morrowind? So basically you'll be playing it backwards as the frames descend into the negative.

Half of 40 is 20
Half of 10 is 5
Half of 4 is 2

Who failed Grade 2 math? It's impossible to "half" a number and get negative.

Differences

I hate to start an Ethnic war but I will try and guess the nationality of the 2 above posters. The first is American, thus the sarcasm. The second is from Western Europe, thus the literal interpretation.

Devil's advocate--that is wonderful, thanks for the laugh.

But I have to point out that Nationality, not Ethnicity, is the word you were looking for. Being American I wish I had had something sarcastic to add, but I can't think of anything so i will just remind everyone that the word ejaculate actually means an abrupt, exclamatory utterance, such as "It burns when I pee!", Jack ejaculated.

1.2 gigs!!! (I ejaculated). Its too bad I think morrowind stinks and I won't buy the expansion or else I would have to definitly try this mod out. But any team that puts that much effort into providing free entertainment to people deserve an ejaculation. Come on guys, make some good ejaculations about the greatness of free mods and how great modders like these guys are.

Well if you read the left side of my post you will notice:

Location: Toronto, Canada.

But it's not about literal interpretation. It's about bustin' someone's joke.

pointless debating about issues irrelevent to the game aside...

this is an incredible achievement. I've downloaded it last night and will fire it up in a day or two. this is probably the biggest player made expansion since the two mods for BG and BG2 or Counterstrke.

Frame rate shouldn't be a problem on my machine - or most today I would think. When Morrowind first came out there were many reports of bugs where the game would crash to the desktop. It turned out most of those people were running overclocked PC's to try to get them to the Minimum Specs of 800mhz. I would hope nobody has anything that slow these days.

I picked up the complete set of Morrowind for $20 at Target last month. I didn't see it there anymore the other day - they've greatly reduced their shelf space for PC games - so you may want to shop around. ITs probably still $30 on Amazon.

ROFLMAO etc and all that crap

I just love it when comment pages phreak out about something totally irrelevant.
anyhow: Being a Morrowind core fan this is good news. Just hope it doesn't fuck up the game like some other mods did(and thus forcing me to start all over)
