i'm not sure what ruins there are in New Sorpigal, which is the zone the game begins in. You might call the Goblin Keep "ruins", but I'm not sure how a ship would figure into that. More info, please!

Ruins

I was warned by the old lady who had me kill the dragon flys not to go there. I really have just started and the control system is new to me. I keep getting killed in the dungeon saw the boat and thought I would try it.
Now I can only get off with a previous save.

@Will

This sounds like M&M 7 or 9. If it is 7 you need to win the scavanger hunt. You can then leave the island.

If it is MM9 you will need to find a door near the ruins, go in and read the book. This will lead to a cut scene, and you will find yourself off the island.

In MM6 there are no ruins at the starting town. I also do not believe there are dragon flies in New Scorpigal.

I bet he's playing MM9. The old lady (Ygra the troll lady or something like that) gives the dragon fly quest, and the ruins there on the island are WAY too tough for a starting character- you come back to them later in the game. The boat will not leave. You will have to deal with Ygra- she'll give you some instructions and a key.

Edit- Combine Lintra's post with mine and you get a pretty complete walkthrough for that first zone...
