Ren is right. You want people to respond you have to limit them. Like what are the 5 best attributes to a good RPG. Then you get people like Ren coming up with 20 things because he plays too many good RPGs and can not limit himself. Its too easy to just give a list of 20 things that you think are important. Its harder and more interesting if you have to sacrifice some things to get other things. Haven't you read Zen and the art of Forum Posting?

The most important is 6) IMO!
Cause if it's fun, it doesn't matter if even alot of the other points are missing - on the other hand, a game with all the points covered except 6) would tempt me alot...

You forgot one. A highly interractive world with intelligent NPCs. Everyone loves baking bread in Ultima because it is utterly useless, but you can still do it. When I got my first kill outside of Britainnia towards Paws in Ultima 9, and a buzzard flew down from a tree and started eating the corpse. That was a great moment. The little things that make you feel a part of that world.

Nah the most important one is 17. Without that you can make whatever you want as nobody will ever use it.

There is always shareware! Might not make as much money as with a publisher, but it can still be made available.
