Ah but this is where havign a real DM can really muck up your plans - they just wait for your spells to run out. However some spells in 3E are a bit too powerful - i.e. Stoneskin.

I just don't like playing mages - it's all that thinking and stuff. Why bother thinking about all those spells when as a fighters I can think of a simple two word phrase "Hit It"

Then I suppose you haven't heard of Greater Stoneskin.

Not in the PnP 3E context - where are the details for it?

OMG I thought stoneskin was bad enough (150 extra hitpoints at 10th level)

Are you sure you're not really a mage just visiting our realm?

It's all a dispel magic waiting to happen.

Or just hit knockdown and kill the smug bastard. Oooo.... 10 points off my damage. Oh no! All is surely lost! *criticals for 45*.

Or just grapple him (not in NWN). Once grappled you average mage couldn't break free and therefore couldn't cast spells.

Danm, they grappled me. =/ But how can they do that when you have made timestop and throwed empowered chain lighning and some other spells. =)

Now I am not going to interupt because I hate warriors/mage battles.

I want some contingency spells back in the game, so I can ignore all your grapples, knockdowns etc. and just blast you warrior types into the next game.

Without equipment, Monks certainly, but this is not really a fair test, since monks are made to operate with little or no equipment. What fighters get over monks is weapon specialization, so if you can find that specific weapon. Also if the mod you are playing has some nice armor, it could go a long way into making a fighter more powerful. Overall I think the monk class is actually over powered. The reason I say this is that they have virtually no weaknesses, certainly at higher levels when they laugh at spell casters, as they rush towards them and use their multitude of attacks to annihilate them. They have many automatic feats and a few weapons/robes only they can use. Kama, shiruken, robe of haste for instance.

Pardon my french, but Kamas suck. The best Kama in the SP module is plain +3. All other "interesting" Kamas are +1 (meaning they are useless against any serious opponent). Level 20 monk has fist attack of 1d20, +3 as far as I recall. And Kamas are 1d6 (or was that 1d4?) +3 at best. And then come the various gloves. Like the Gloves of Hin Fist +5. Add +5 to your to-hit and add 1d6 of Sonic damage. You should see hordes of skeletons go down in one turn . Also, I found that Improved Robes of the Old Order + Boots of Speed are better than robes of haste + some other boots. That 5 damage soak can come in quite handy in long fights.

True. Though it depends on the level of the monk. (8th, monk/ 4th ranger, in my case.) I carry two Kamas, both of which do extra damage of various types, important since you can run into monsters that are immune to physical damage. Then two kamas are preferably to a single set of gloves that do additional damage other than physical. Your d20 is worthless against certain monsters. The great ablity of the monk is in his flexibily, not wearing armor he can carry a plethora of weapons, and chose the appropriate weapon for the moment. Although at high evels 15-20 in melee, his unarmed attack is best, as you point out.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking about getting the old order robes, but now I'm wearing Elven boots, and I just can't part with them.
