Gothic 3: Firstfacts @ GameVision (German)

The GameVision crew has summed up all of the known facts about the third Gothic installment. You can read the article if you follow the source and the only problem would be that the text is in German. The article also contains a couple of known conceptual arts.

Although I don't have the time to translate the whole text, I'll try to summarize what is witten in the article:

Story:
- the orcs won the war against king Rohbar, but seemingly this wasn't their main goal...
- the Gods Innos, Adanos and Beliar fight each other in an epic battle
- it's the heros misson to save the world from destruction
- Xardas will play a main part (not known if as a friend or a foe)
- the hero will meet his old friends
- the whole story will take place on the continent

World:
- about twice the size as in Gothic II
- you will be able to explore the countries you read about in books in GI + GII such as Nordmar
- the countyside will be more unique in each region
- harmonic transition from woodland to desert etc.

Game:
- there's the chance that mounts are implemented
- the hero starts with a higher level
- new combat system (mouse contolled)
- new combat animations
- enemies become more intelligent and agile -> can climb walls
- difficulty level adjusts automatically to player's skills
- quests adjust to player's behaviour
- role of guilds less important (maybe this will be discarded, because it's heavily opposed by the German community)
- professions like blacksmith become more important, you may take over shops from NPCs

Technical aspects:
- new graphic engine (DirectX 9 features like High-Dynamic-Range-Rendering, Normal- and Specular-Mapping real time shadows)

Comment by the translator:
Some of these "facts" are rather rumors and shouldn't be taken for granted.
You may get an idea of how the story continues when you recall some scenes and dialogues of Gothic I and II.

In addition I found some new rumors and facts that are not listed in the text.
Some of them are directly from a news post by Gamestar magazine, Europe's most often read game magazine.

- a huge part of the world will be desert as seen on the artworks
- you can die with thirst and maybe starve, so you need to take water and food with you all the time
- local warlords fight each other
- you have the option to save the king (maybe as paladine)
- the engine used in Gothic III will be the same as in "Die Gilde 2" but with considerable adjustments

and I almost forgot:

The German MA-metal band "In Extremo" (known from Gothic I) will eventually provide on of their songs.

Thx a lot for these infos!

Can't wait for this game, would be nice to have an english version of Gothic 2 expansion, to kill the time while waiting for the third chapter. Even subtitles only, i heard something about a fan made translation, anyone can tell me more about this?

Oh and by the way, "Die Gilde 2" means Europa 1400 The guild 2 .. right?

You can find out all about the translation by searching the Gothic 2 General section of the forums.

Why does the German community oppose guilds in the Gothic games?

I think you have it back to front: the German community opposes PB's idea to make guilds less important (apparently). I would agree - the factions are one of the best things about the Gothic series.

As far as I heard the fan-made translation is fully in progress.
Yeah, "Europa 1400 The Guild 2" ist the English title I think (the European publisher is also Jowood)

@Pladio:
I think they rather improve than change it. I heard rumors about a new combat focus and some new hit combos. Also the long range combat (bows, crossbows) will be altered.

@TheMadGamer

You got me wrong (or maybe I put it wrong...)
Piranha Bytes: guilds less important
Community: guilds more important

Many fans were dissapointed about the fact that it did hardly matter what guild you were in to win the game. So they proposed PB to add new guild specific weapons skills and quests to make them more distinguishable.
But in the end it's PB decision what the guilds in Gothic III will become like.

If you want to know what ideas the german community proposed, you may follow this link:

http://mitglied.lycos.de/DMatt/gothic/mgothic.html

Use the Google translator to convert it to English.

This is not confirmed. The news back then was only that IE was interested.
Would be great, though.

Dhruin, I agree. If they diminish the importance of the guilds, what much is there to differentiate it from Morrowind in that respect, where the guilds were essentially lifeless, useless, and interchangeable? The guilds provide a great way to tie the player into the world and the story, and advance the player, the story, and the NPCs at the same time.
