Bahaha. Grenades would be cool. Maybe Constantino invented them. Problem is, game needs a "throw" button to make use of that. Also, with a throw button, we can start doing funky stuff like throwing torches into skeleton's heads, like Aragorn in FoTR.

After Grenades, we'll need sniper scopes for our bows. So we can pick off baddies a mile away! And flaming arrows! And repeating crossbows! And....

It's only just dawned on me that there are no shields in Gothic 2. I personally have no real problems with this as Gothic 2 also has cannons and rapiers, which suggests it is aiming for a 16th century Europe "look"; and shields pretty much fell out of use in Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries.

My only gripes with this are relatively minor, the first is that I didn't realise that there were no shields, If I had I would simply ignored single-handed weapons and gone for 2-handed weapons. The other is that it makes it difficult to tackle enemies armed with bows. I would love to hold a tower shield or kite shield in front of me while charging towards them!

The other thing that has hit me is the relative absense of helmets. Only knights and paladins seem to use them. While shields may have died out in 15th-16th century Europe, helmets remained popular as ever, and there was a wide variety: armets, morions, cabassets, burgonets, sallets, need I say more?

Now I know Gothic 2 is not in 16th century Europe, but since it's aiming for that sort of feel, shouldn't there be matchlock muskets and wheellock pistols too?

Maybe we'll see these in Gothic 3...

Yes, but I only started playing 3 weeks ago.

I wanted to know if thre were shields or not. Why start a new thread when there is already one out there.
