Well, now I finally got all patches, and decided to give the game another chance, I still have a very serois question - Are familiars/animal companions actual companions (like in NWN) or are they just an inventory accesorie (like Minsc's Boo?)

I’m surprised Xen didn’t drop by here yet.

As far as can remember; ToEE companions are inventory items, however they give some bonuses to the statistics of the holders (sorcerers or/and wizards), but don’t quote me on that. There was thread somewhere here what gives what, but too lazy to look

Now if somebody talks about NWN mine mind goes blank, played once (without add-on's) so clearly can’t remember about familiars there.

They are indeed inventory items and the only one worth anything is the Toad for +3 hit points. The rest of them give +2 to checks that really don't get made in the game very often... even the spot and listen familiars.

I was a little annoyed at that design decisions. Sure nobody in their right mind USES a familiar during an adventure... it's a good way to lose experience/level... but the option should have been there.

With the Co8-4.0.0 mod and Co8 4.0.1 patch (both must be used and in that order) Familiars are indeed playable, their abilities grow as you gain experience too.

Co8-4.0.1 Player made patch for ToEE, by the Co8.

For those of you who may be interested, the Co8 has recently released the Co8 4.0.0 user created patch. I'll just let morpheus do the talking...

quote:
It contains all previous Co8 releases, moebius2778's temple.dll fixes, Livonya's 1.5.1, ShiningTed's 1.2.1 (including Playful NPCs and Desperate Housewives - the latter is optional), and Allyx's ShopMap V2 (also optional).

The list of things added/fixed since Co8 3.04 would be much too long to post here, so here's the gist of it:

- dozens (if not hundreds) of bugs fixed
- lots of craftable items added
- new armour & clothing
- new weapons
- new quests
- new encounters
- new dialog
- new stores
- new locations
- new spells
- new music/sounds
- improved enemy AI
- possibility to use more than 5 PCs
- level cap can be set to any number from 1-20
- customisable starting equipment
- now with Agetian's ToEE Front-End

Prerequisites for the mod pack:
Before installing the mod pack, you MUST install Atari's official ToEE patch 2, available here: ftp://ftp.infogrames.net/patches/toe...ANY-PATCH2.EXE

Atari's ToEE patch 2 includes all the fixes from patch 1; therefore installing patch 1 is usually not required. However, there have been reports from people who could not install patch 2 without installing patch 1 first. If you experience the same problem, install patch 1, then patch 2. Patch 1 is available here: ftp://ftp.infogrames.net/patches/toe...PATCH1_ENU.EXE

You SHOULD NOT install Atari's patch 3. If you have installed patch 3 already and want to get rid of it, just install patch 2 on top of it.

Microsoft .NET framework 1.1 is required if you install Agetian's ToEE Front-End. Get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Those are some really nice changes to the game. I'm tempted to take another run through it with the CO8 additions.

Hmm, I've wanted to give it another go for some time. But this definately tips the scales!

Please do

The ability to get your familiars "out of your pack" is a good way to make the call familiar feat more useful.

The shopmap is also a nice touch (if I must say so myself) that allows you to purchase your own starting equipment. Smigmal Redhand now re-appears correctly if you were unable to beat her in the first encounter with her.

The Romag quest where you must deliver a letter to rentsch even when he is dead has been fixed.

Not to mention the new quests, expanded plotline for Lareth the beautiful, a complete enemy AI overhaul, new craftable items, and a huge bunch of bug fixes.

Pity I don't have much time for gaming right now. Yet another thing to add to my list for summer gaming.

"Smigmal Redhand"

I thought that might have been a bug. I was able to beat her when I saw her the second time by having my fighter do Whirlwind Attacks as I could not target her directly.

I definitely plan on going through TOEE with the new stuff once I beat the "unmodded" game (using Atari patch 2 plus CO8 3. something or other).

Smigmal Redhand

Yeah someone gave her the wrong command to disapear which made her difficult to target, this has been fixed, she now re-appears properly.
