Character building - any major do's don'ts?

Ok I'm level 3 (14 str 7 int 11 dex 11 con) and some random points in skills. This questions is not "How do I make the strongest character" or "optmize distribution" but rather are there any majors do/dont's that if you don't get a stat (or skill) at least this high you will be in a major bind when you get to this part of the game?

I hope that part of the question was clear? I'm just asking for general advice do i need to get certain stats/skills to a certian level to be able to do certian part of the games with reasonable effort - if so which skills/stats by which time period?

Thanks!

Stength, dex, and casting in that order. You will have to fight, and to wear the good armours and use the right weapons you do need the strength and dex. To make basic life and mana potions you will need some casting. It is kind of up to how you want to play after you get to level 4 or 5. If you want to use majic, casting skills, (object knowledge and int are part of this) If you want to be a thief, put in some stealth skills. About the only one that is a waste of points is the ethereal one. That doesn't seem to help anything at all. Intuition is not a big one, but a few points won't hurt it at first. There are rings and other objects in game later that will boost the minor skills as well. Hope this helps a little.

Just to clarify, the first two times cmckj50 uses the word casting he actually means intelligence.

Object knowledge is the one skill everyone should increase as it's needed to be able to make potions and indentify and use special items you find later on. I think anything above 60 is fairly pointless, but I'm not sure the requirements for all the rings...

You already have the minimum str required to use most weapons and armor. There's one dagger that requires 14 dex but is only usefull if you use stealth a lot.
