Add-on questions

I'm curious as to what new factions are in the add on. I read the developers thread here, and saw that there are 2 new ones to join. Do these act like the Thieves Guild, where you are a member, but it doesn't register on screen as what you are (Mercenary, Novice, etc) or are they like one of the 3 main guilds?

Pirates, bandits, water mages.

The add on guilds are like the thieves guild. They are not main guilds like paladins, mercenaries ans mages. But they are necessary for the add on story. You must yoin this guilds in run history without leaving your main guild.

btw: They are news for the add on (from a developer). The addon will published in english, but the localization needed still much time. Atari is not the fastest... There is still no publication date.

PS: You can't become a water mage in the add on. Much german fans was sad about it.

So at least it's sure it will be published in English?

Do you have a source for this?
This can be interpreted in two ways: (1) Translation really takes a lot of time. (2) PB was not asked to make it a priority. Of course the add-on will only be finished when Atari decides itīs time.
Since the voice recordings were done back in September I would suspect alternative 2 is more likely.

As for a possible release, a US release before mid next year would be rather illogical IMHO, because market penetration is too low. The UK could get it earlier, though.

I left this info out because I considered it too spoilerish. The closed water mage path was one of the few drawbacks. The add-on is excellent.

I have spoken with Nico Bendlin, member of the developers, Piranha Bytes.
He says, the add on is in work, but Atari is a large company and so everything lasts longer.
Thats all, no date and no further information. It's Ataris turn, to announce the add on.

To the water mages:
It's better to inform before, than afterwards disappoint, I guess. In the german community many fans were disappointed about this fact, because they did not know it before.

And for all fans: Yes, the add on is very, very good. Add on to find bad, only because one cannot become a water mage, is the wrong aspect.

I'm still a bit unclear as to how the addon works -- can it be played as a separate game (like the new Dungeon Siege expansion), or does it branch off from the G2 main game (like the Morrowind expansions)? If the latter, when can you go?

I'm wondering if I should save one of the guilds for a new game when the expansion comes out. And if so which (paladin or merc, I've finished as a mage).

With the add on you must begin a new game. It's more an add in as an add on.
Some people at first did not like it, to begin the game with installed add on still once from the beginning. They had already so often played the game. But the add on story is embedded into the Gothic II story. And it was a good decision to conceive the add on in such a way, because the world up so still more fully with quests and persons are.

Good -- so I'll save a guild. Which is best for the addon, then -- merc or paladin?

Okay, so we know it's coming out in English. But will there be a seperate U.S. version or will the English version be compatible with both? Or will us Americans just not get the add-on?

We don't know yet. We need to wait until the publisher gives us an official announcement. Anyway, since the U.S. has such a huge market, I'm sure there'll be a U.S. version. If anything goes wrong, we can still order an imported copy, right?
