I usually buy Intel, but I won an AMD Processor, so.... that is what I use.

AMD only.

However I do not think there will be much difference in DS. Ofcourse you must compare 1800+ (AMD) with 1800 Intel.

I have 6 PC's in my apartment... all networked together with a switched 100Mb network... One of which is my Win2K server with 2 NIC's (one for the internet, one for the intranet) Not a single Intel processor in the house... All are AMD's... With one 1.3 Ghz T-Bird... a couple of Durons... and a couple of the older K-7's... (800 and 900 Mhz)...

I've not supported the 'Evil Empire' (aka, Intel) since AMD made their chips available... I've always gotten more performance, for less $$$...

Remember... more 'GHZ' or 'MHZ" does NOT translate into a faster, more effecient processor... as Intel discovered when the AMD 1800 + chips were beating their faster clocked (but less effecient) Pentium 4's.

Intel currently holds the cup regarding overall clock speed for desktop PC's... but that's only because AMD has been able to keep up with them in terms of overall work, by using their 'older' technology... and lower clocks... Sort of the equivalent of having a V6 outperform a larger, but less effiecient, V8...

That will change soon... as AMD's next line of CPU's is due to hit the market... They will do more 'work' at a given clock speed than the fastest Intel can offer... Which has been AMD's crowning glory... and why you see that most of the people (by a large margin) who have responded to this forum, are using AMD's... Cheaper, Better, Faster never held more true...

So long as I can buy an equal- or better-performing chip from AMD at $200 less than Intel's, you can bet I'll be buying AMD.

Latest PriceWatch pricing shows the AMD 1800+ at $102 US... The Pentium 2.0 Ghz...(arguably the same performance) at $319.... Still about $200 different... Which I'd rather pocket than spend on the Evil Empire... That's alot of games... or groceries...
(For reference, the XP 2000 is $173... still cheaper by a pretty wide margin, even for those who don't see the similarities in performance between the P4 2000, and the AMD 1800+ )

heh. go to tomshardware.com and look for a video on overheating comparing AMD vs Intel. It's fun.

Suffice to say, AMD chips burn hot and have no shutdown safety protocols. The video is a blast at pointing that out.

Well, I think we should stop this. It is starting to be too off topic and I really do not want another well known "AMD vs. Intel" flamewar. I know it from several other forums and it is ussually not nice thing to read.
