A little Morrowind-rant with some questions...

Hurray! I got it, I got the game! I got Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition.
And I just had to rant about it to somebody that would hopefully understand...

I got it in the mail today, oh boy, oh boy, I'm so excited!

It came with a manual and a map! I can't belive it. It's so long since I got a game and there was a manual inside, and a map. And the Bloodmoon island Solstheim is on the map too...wheeeeee...

Oh well...the rant aside.

Any good character tips? I was thinking about a mage. What's the best
race to go with, high elf? And the usual "born under the mage sign" ?

Oh, and I have a question about this Tribunal thingy...this city Mournhold, the Clockwork City of Sotha Sil, where in Vvardenfell is it? And can you travel in and out off it while you are playing the Morrowind story, or do you have to stay inside the city and complete the add-on adventure there?

...anyway, it's Morrowind-time. Yeeeha!

I don't bealive there are ANY limitation on what you MUST do in Morrowind. You can travel in and out as much as you want as I recall.

Though if you use some plugins you can break the scripting (The Skeleton Island plugin comes to mind). As for sign, I always go with the tower, as it allows you to unlock any chest with under lock level 50( )!

If your gonna be a mage, I wouldnt waste your star sign on the Tower. You can easily create your own unlock spell that will do the equivalent pretty early in the game.

Ah, it's not!

Morrowind is a province of Tamriel. Most of Morrowind is taken up by a volcanic island known as Vvardenfell, but there are outlying islands like Solstheim and, of course, some "mainland" that is attached to the rest of Tamriel.

As you've probably worked out by now, the original game is based entirely on Vvardenfell, the Tribunal expansion pack allowed you to travel to various places on the mainland (including Mournhold, the provincal capital of Morrowind), and Bloodmoon adds Solstheim to the mix.

It all makes sense, honest!

Yes, mages won't need that skill for long. Thieves will quickly be able to pick sub-50 locks. And fighters will find lots of scrolls for unlocking things in smuggler's caves.

I don't think the unlock ability is that useful.

On the other hand, Beggar's Nose can be pretty handy for a mage or thief. Knowing where every creature or powerful item in a 200 ft radius is, can be well utilized in sneak and summon based tactics.

If I choose Tower, I'd be using that spell a lot more than the unlock ability.

Maybe I'll try out the Tower sign later. I went with the Mage sign now. Thanks for all the tips anyway.

@cfmdobbie: So Mournhold is not in Vvardenfel, but just some place else outside of the map, is that right? So if it's not in Vvardenfell, then I guess I can stop looking for it... ...yes, I think so... hehe

Got to wait untill the weekend to play some Morrowind, as I have three programming exercises to finish untill friday...

Tip, don't ever ever ever powergame in Morrowind. You'll be sorry because you'll own everything even if you don't powergame in Morrowind.

Just start exploring and enjoying your character. As far as racial abilities go, they're nearly worthless if you're a powergamer -- beggar's nose and the open lock 50 points included. The exception might be redguard adrenaline because it buffs you so darned much.

The open lock 50 points can be easily cast with some alteration that any character can get very easily. Or, security, though it's generally the harder way. Beggar's Nose is just a mysticism spell. Any character can get any type of magic. If you're going to be a mage, though, you definitely don't have much use for these birthsign abilities.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry at all about whether my character would come out well in morrowind. Any powergamer can become a 100% master of any skill or all skills relatively well. Any non-powergamer will have an easy time getting their skills to 50%, which is enough to get by. You won't have any problems later on, really.
