So, do you roleplay?

Just wondering how many of you try to roleplay your character? Do you have a background for your character, and try to act like your character would? Do you make your own story? I want to hear some stories of your characters.

I always roleplay to some amount. I never steal from friends or NPCs who have helped me and I never attack anyone unless I'm attacked first. I do things like that.

of course i did roleplay, since what i am playing is CRPGs! . Anyhow, how far we "roleplay" are in diffirent degrees from one person to another person. We would even argue what is "roleplay"...but that is another story.

I usually play a character with certain personality: natural good, choatic good, character development, skills development....etc etc. But i never bother much of creating a deep character background, or stuffs like that...it depend how much time you have playing game. If we are busy or have other obligations...we will be lucky enough just to finish a games.

I think that is also why i still like FPS games - just blow everything that move with maximum fire power & maximum carnage while you laughing like a maniac infront your pc! creating character background? bah!.

Yes, I do roleplay. And I do have some background stories with all my characters. The background stories dont really make sense if you think about Morrowind when reading them though because they were all written err ahh thought up, most I haven't written down yet, with Ultima Online in mind.

I do roleplay to some degree though it seems that certain situations will drive me into a corner and force me to break character to be able to survive in the game.

Yes I roleplay, not in the background my character flows from, but the actions that he does in game; never steals, never kills the innocent, never wear things picked up (would YOU wear a filthy smugglers extravagant shirt?).
Also more minor things, avoid getting wet where possible, keep jumping and sprinting to a minimum, generally try to act more normal, rather than jumping all over the roofs of Balmora looking for loot .

Its all about discipline; ie. not swimming through the Odai, instead, venturing further down river for a bridge.

Absolutely. I play an honourable imperial. I was unjustly imprisoned on the mainland and the Emperor found out about my plight and got involved which is why I was sent to Morrowind. I am completely loyal to the Emperor, and do my best to route out corruption. Being an imperial, I am also fairly diplomatic, so I respect the ways of the dumner as well, and joined house redoran who's beliefs are very noble.

I just recently started playing, and my Orc Knight is at level 20 and into the main quest to the point where he's contracted that Corpreus desease.

I don't create much back story for a character, but I certainly create a current world view and personality for them. For example...

Ulu Mulu (my Orc Knight -- yes, it's a Gothic reference) is very sensitive to the Orc background. A fierce, war-like people who were persecuted by all, and for quite some time tried to continuously resort to violence to destroy outsiders. Eventually though, the Orcs earned enough respect in the Empire to be accepted as an equal race, and they have come to live peacefully in Tamriel.

As such, Ulu Mulu identifies strongly with the Ashlander Nomads, and sees in them what the Orc culture once was. He'll gladly pursue the Neverian (?) Prophecy, but does so not to rid Vvardenfell of Outlanders, nor to bring some great age to the Ashlander Nomads. Rather, he wishes to use the respect he'll get from the Ashlanders to try to convince them that the Empire isn't really an enemy, but rather the only ally that they can have and live in peace with.

As for the Great Houses, Ulu Mulu is currently climbing in stature in House Redoran. House Hlaalu would seem a better choice for an Imperial evangelist like Ulu Mulu, but he's worried about Hlaalu's ties with the Camona Tong and isn't convinced of Hlaalu's nobleness. He'd rather try to gain influence in Redoran and sway them away from the Temple and toward the more secular view of the Empire.

Lastly, he's an ardent fan of the Imperial Legion and Cult, and that is were his primary allegiances are.

So how does this affect my play?

Ulu Mulu avoids using Temples, as they're use would offend the Orc God Malech (?). Since the Imp. Cult includes Malech worship, Divine Intervention is where it's at ! And those Pilgrims will just have to fend for themselves. Also, I'm hoping that at some time in the storyline, Ulu Mulu's allegiances to the Imp. Cult and the Ashlanders raise tensions with the Temple to the point where an all out war occurs and Ulu Mulu feels justified in performing some Temple "cleansing".

Ulu Mulu tends to prefer Orc-like armor and weaponry. His Legion work requires him to don pieces of Imperial garb at times, but he'll always have some definitively Orc-ish elements to his look. Right now, he wears his Orc boots everywhere, prefers the look of bonemeld armor (especially the palamors), and heavily favors the use of Axes over Long Swords.

I currently have a quest from a Redoran house noble to rescue his son from imprisonment in another Redoran noble's house. I'm going to try to find out some more information about the Redoran House politics before deciding whether or not to go through with that one. Ulu Mulu may end up deciding the imprisonment is just.

And it's always possible that some of this may change. Ulu Mulu may eventually find out that attempting to sway Redoran is a waste of time. In which case, he may have to get himself thrown out and join Hlaalu to make sure the balance of power on Vvardenfell tilts toward the Emperor.

If I enjoy the world enough, I expect to replay with different types of characters. Perhaps a power hungry mage that is so completely taken by the Nevarian prophecies that he ends up trying to destroy all things Imperial and Temple. Or perhaps an assassin that decides to side with the Dunmer and kick out out the Imperials. Or some humble monk that, after spending so many years in prison, just wants to avoid everything political and live a quiet life helping other commoners and settling down. Who knows?

Honestly I've been more careful to stay in character while roleplaying in bloodmoon. On the other hand...
I have an imperial knight who was a high ranking member of the legion before being framed for murder. He is still loyal to the empire but he is a bit jaded by having been betrayed by the same system he once believed so strongly in. He refuses to work with the Dunmer great houses, especialy Hlaalu due to thier ties to the Cammona Tong. If he gets the opertunity to he would gladly cripple them. He still haven't heard that Larrius Varro wants to talk to him. And he might join the Morag Tong if he learned much about them. In the mean time he's working his way back up the ranks of the legion.

So, do you roleplay?

I roleplay the same character in all my games so I have a set(ish)character background story for my assassin thief/rogue - neutral to chaotic good character. Being a thief means I can pick locks and therefore go interesting places denied others. I don't pickpocket often - it's beneath me - but I can find traps and then either disarm or avoid them. An assassin doesn't kill indiscriminately - I pick my targets for a reason.
MW as a theif is great, sneaking into the High Houses means I get to look at secrets best not discussed. I found the theif's guild rather petty and corrupt so joined the fighters and found them to be just as bad. I wasn't imprisoned for theft so feel vindicated when using my talents for the Emperor.

Oh yes, the Iron Maiden, my Nord Crusader is definitely an independent entity. I tend to find she dresses differently according to her situation, like if she has to go to a temple or is practicing or seeking magic she will wear a robe. Or just around town or going to join a guild she will wear normal clothes, but her fashion sense is a bit odd. She will wear a fine long dress and velvet gloves, yet also her breastplate and helm!
I play her as an eccentric type of purrson, who is on this whole thing just for the adventure. She is a hardcore 2-handed hammer and sword tank, and her Restoration and shielding powers and other assorted majiks make her near unstoppable. She has been locked in a one-strider-town her whole life, and decided to cut loose I guess =]~

Nice, Gunther (my Nord) might like her . He's wearing armor most of the time nowadays, save for the helmet and breastplate.
.
She doesn't suffer from anaemia...?

One problem tho, she hates the Undead

I'll try and see if she will make an exception in Gunthers case, he looks like a nice enough fellow. Besides, Crusaders have Turn Undead. If the date is going badly she can hit him with that and exit stage left ='.'=
