You shouzld be fine with that configuration. It won't scream if you max out everything, but it will be playable even in crowded environments.

The MOST important thing is to have at least 512MB RAM.

Maybe not MAXIMUM but you'll probably get excellent performance.

I would think so, but I can't confirm that. But given everything I know that should make loading of "cells" more seamless.

@Dog of War: With your PC-System the Game will run fine in the Wilderness of Gothic II, but in the Town of Khorinis your Frame-Rate will be massively slower with Maximum Details and an higher Resolution (1280*1024 and up)

I dont think that you can play Gothic II with Maximum Settings in the City of Khorinis, because your Hardware ist too slow for it.

A Friend of Mine has slow Framerates at an test in the City of Khorinis with an FPS-Counter. He was shocked !

Settings:

Resoulution: 1024x768x16(!) BIT
View Distance: 200/200 (MAX is 300/300)
Details: 60 % (MAX is 100)

The FPS: only 14 !!!

His System (XP1900+,KT266A,512MB DDR RAM @ CL2 & Geforce4 TI4400)

At Normal Benchmarks he has top Results with his System

What a hell , it will be playable , look nice , and it will be fun
After all , its not some FPS -"kill them all" game where you need 50 + fps.

@Dog of War: Sure you dont need 50+ fps, but 10-14 fps are choppy

@Poanus: I would suggest that you uprade first your RAM to 512 MB, with 256 MB the Game will constantly load Textures (unless you play with very low Details, but then the Graphics are ugly) causing permanent interrupts in the Game.

Poanus (hell, I hope you don't know what the combo of Po and anus means for a german speaking person *g*): I think you will a hard time to enjoy Gothic 2 with this system. RAM and graphics card are the weak points.

My computer has similar specifications as yours (with SBLive! Value sound card) and I tried the demo version. The game settings is as follows:
-Resolution: 1024x768x32 (don't know why, but performance worsens at 800x600)
    -View distance: 70%/70%
    -Details: 80%/80%
-All additional options, such as water waves, have been turned off.
As a low-end computer, Gothic II runs fairly smoothly in the forest--if you consider 15-20fps as "smooth". However, in the city, the game becomes really choppy ie. 1-5fps. But, it's still acceptable for me because the game didn't crash.

All in all, you *can* play the game if you lower the texture details and viewing distance. (Lowering the resolutions does not help on my system.) But don't expect to get good performance even with all the additional options turned off.

If I have the money, I'll upgrade the system with the following priority:
    1. RAM. I'll upgrade to 512MB. The system uses more than 400MB of memory while the game is running.
    2. Video card. Doesn't need to be high-end. Ti4200/Ti4400 or similar is fine for me I guess.
    3. CPU.
I don't know if that helps, but hopefully you'll find how well the game runs on your system.

Strange as it may seem performance in the demo is not representative for performance in the full game. The latter requires more CPU power and more system memory due to the number of active NPCs and world size.

Having said that, I have played the full game three times now (as paladin, mercenary and mage) on a P3-600 with 256MB RAM. My choppiness record so far is 1 frame per 3 seconds, the result of maybe 15-20(?) skeletons being spawned by two or three skeleton mages. At that point all I could do was exit the game.

But here's a better indication (an attempt at objective estimation):
- 90% of gameplay I get 17-28 fps (max 75 fps)
- 8% of gameplay will bring me down to 10-17 fps
- 2% of the game is below 10 fps.

Those figures are for 800x600x32 at medium detail, 100% visibility (60% in the city).
