New to Arx and... Wow!

Well... It's another of those useless threads I think, I just wanted to produce some good newbe vibes Something like we all enjoy seeing in Wizardry forums

Just bought Arx Fatalis. Honestly, I did it because it was cheap here. I read couple of reviews before and knew it should be not a bad game... But I never *wanted* to buy it. I was surprised in a most pleasant way.

This game is different. So different. I don't know what works - it's quest/adventure-like style, interaction with things... I don't know... I just know I totally like it. I spend only about 2 hours in it and I think that my mission of challenging Planescape for the 3rd time will have to wait I don't have much time to play, and I'm playing GoldenLand for review purposes, so it won't be soon I'll save the day again. In fact I'm going to enjoy Arx for as long as possible. Tell me how long this game is? Assuming I do every quest I can and talk to every NPC out there. I want it to be long, please

I like graphics and atmosphere very much. Very moody and absolutely breath-taking dungeons. Perfect dungeon-crawl, I think. Monsters are very well done, voices are great (even though I'm playing Russian-language version). Woooooooooot... I can talk about it for more hours I actually played it

Expect this thread to grow with question as I proceed with the game. I think there should be some complex quests ahead. And once again - it was such a pleasant surprise! Why nobody of you here forced me to go and buy Arx earlier?!

I too think AF is great, with the strange method of drawing runes in the air, especially the secret ones. Somehow though, I've been sidetracked and am presently playing Max Payne 2 with the bullet time (floating in slowmotion while firing weapons) and other features.

Welcome to the world of ARX. I agree. I love this game. I would say it is a good 40 to 80 hours, depending on how organized you are and how many times you screw up and have to load a save game. Read some of the other threads here about the game, as it is a buggy one right out of the box. I think most of the dos and don'ts have been covered here. Have fun.

40-80 hours will do Thank you, cm. I don't think bugs will be a problem, because Russian version comes patched up to 1.7 - the latest one... Well, sometimes having non-English language game may be an advantage

You are lucky there. The US version was very bad, but patch fixed all.

It's a great game, stanthony - I'm glad you picked it up. I think about 40 hours is right but it obviously depends on how you play. If you think the atmosphere is good, wait till a little later. Parts of Arx are close to the scariest experience you'll ever get on a computer.

Strange, My Russian version was 1.1, and had A LOT of bugs. I got another version, a cracked english one. Then I copied some of it's files(Data.pak(the gtraphic i think)), and it's still running in Russian but without bugs.

Also the game is great. I tried it 10 times never finishing the first dungeon until I liked it, but then it was COOL!

Also it has a very.....Strange graphix, never saw these ears before...

P.S. cmckj, don't bather asking julien any more, I got it fixed. Sorry for disturbing you.

@NOBODY. How did you fix it? It might help someone else that runs into the same problem. Glad you did.

As I said there. I had a Russian version, then bought a cracked english one, and copied the graphics file to the game. Looks like the file was corrupt.

P.S. I'm glad that you're glad that I fixed it...
