I just finished the game, and although I thought it was a great game overall, I was a bit disappointed in some respects. The final battle was way too easy...and very anticlimactic! There really *isn't* a final battle.

In addition, I thought that there should have been a lot less skill points available. I mean, I had like 100+ leftover at the end of the game, despite having 100+ strength and 130 mana as a magician of the 6th circle. If you play as a magician (as I did), once you get storm of fire, there's little need for anything else.

It was a great game, but I like RPG's where it is impossible to "max out" in every area, requiring you to choose a few things to specialize in. A great example of this would be something like Arcanum.

Oh well. Great game anyway...cool story. I'll look forward to Gothic 2.

True, the last chapter was a bit too easy. Still, a game which is a bit too easy is - IMO - still better than a game which is so difficult that interest is easily lost.

Let's wait for part 2...

it is often hard to find right balance - a game that is difficult for a rpg-rookie can be boring for a rpg-expert.

best solution: difficulty levels

easy normal nightmare insane ...

Phineas,
This is a bit off topic as it refers to your Arcanum comment.

For me Arcanum could have been a great game but once I reached the 50th level (quite early on) and still had so much to do & explore the game lost MAJOR interest. And I quit soon after.
For me, above everything else and RPG is about character development. An RPG where I can't continue to develop & evolve my character (IMHO) is no longer an RPG.

Which only proves the old adage about 'different strokes for different folks'. But a lot of those type of issues could be handled offering different difficulty levels with options.
Say something like: average = 0, easy gives you 5 option points (sort of like when you're customizing your race in Master of ORION 2) and hard means you add 5 points of difficult (your choice where/how)
