Ive got an AMD XP 2000+ (1.67ghz) A Ge Force 2 Pro (28.32 drivers) 512 sdram, 80 gig 7200rpm HD, 12gig 5100rpm HD, and an Audigy Gamer sound card. Morrowind runs at 17-25fps outdoors and 34-40fps indoors, which I think is fine. I am not having any "Stutter Problems" Either. But for the people who ARE having these problems I really hope the devs come out with a patch and/or new drivers come out to fix it. (For some reason I heard the devs (of morrowind) went on vacation after the game went gold.

Try updating your radeon drivers to the leaked 6071 (grab them @ www.rage3d.com) . Also if you have a via mainboard chipset, try upgrading to the newest via4in1 drivers.

Already done that. I write reviews, so I keep everything tip-top.

Pugnate how is that possible?

Honestly man how is it possible? How could it run so poorly on top end pc's and so well on machine 1/10 their strength? It would be a miracle of modern day computing for that to happen, I want all the people that are getting good numbers to walk into the middle of a large city and give me their framerates. and their game settings.

My specs:

Amd 1ghz
384 pc 133sdram
Geforce 3 ti200
Sb live! x gamer

get around 10fps in cities, around high teens in wilderness, and maybe high 20's indoors and dungeons. I Also keep getting these pauses for no apparent reason, when it does it , it doesn't even access the HD or Disc and its not a "loading region/interior/exterior" thing, i tried the cracked .exe and it didn't help any. I'm building a new computer just for morrowind with these specs:

P4 Northwood 1.6a gonna o'c the hell out of it, hopefully to at least 2.4ghz
512 mushkin high performance ddr ram
Geforce 4 ti4600
Sb audigy gamer

i swear if morrowind doesn't run at least in 20fps and up i will throw it out the window. Because the cities are very noticeable choppy, and the damn pauses i keep getting are starting to get annoying.

Dude I've seen it happen. I work at a computer store and some games just run better on some systems without explanation.

The problem with Morrowind is that it is happening a lot more than it should. Rendelius, I just made an edit at the bottom of the post.. I think it soulds a bit better.

Let me tell you something here are my specs just so you understand
xp1900+
512ddr
SB audigy gamer
geforce 4 ti4600
(all new drivers blah blah blah)
shadows off, ai 1/4 and everything else max
1024 768
FPS in cities 11-18
FPS in wilderness 30-50
FPS inside 30-80

I am telling you right now your new pc will NOT get your over 20 fps in the cities at max detail, even though at 2.6 it will be a beast this game will bring it to it's knees.

That is what pisses me off, we all buy these pc's spend all this cash for games like this and it still doens't run well, as a matter of fact is runs like total ASS

I agree totally. The game would be great, except that it stutters, coughs, wheeszes and croaks - enough that I can't do well in combat. Enough that every ten steps or so the game actually hangs. Enough that the sound goes awry when the framerate slows. Enough that I can't play it. And yes, I have a pretty high end new machine.

I really think this is an issue the game publishers should be dealing with - the buzz I heard before I bought the game was that it was far too choppy on many machines, but as I have a new machine with new drivers, etc. I thought I'd be OK. Joke's on me.

For all ATI card users, I have a mini solution..

First put your desktop down to 800x600 or 640x480 if you don't have win xp. Then run the game with the cracked exe, and set the game resolution at 640x480.

I know some of you will complain about the lines..

So, if your card has tv out connect it to the tv, and the tv automatically takes away the jagged edges. Or if you are lucky enough to own a Radeon 8500, turn FSAA to 6x Quality.

ATI cards have one thing on Nvidia cards, besides DVD playback.. and that is FSAA. Turn it up and all the jaggies will be gone. There is no more stutter and the FPS are better.

Troll Loser?

Where did this come from? Yes I do think people lie sometimes, either to confuse other people or to make themselves look good, who knows their motivations. probably the same motivation you had to call me a troll loser.

From the readme in the morrowind folder

*****************************************************************

3. PERFORMANCE TUNING

*****************************************************************

There are several things you can do to increase game performance.

1. Slide Real Time shadows all the way off.
On certain machines, shadows become the biggest speed hit.

2. Slide the view distance all the way down.
The farther you can see, the slower the game will run.

3. Slide AI distance to Near.
Causes AI to not process as much for characters closer to you.

4. Turn off music
The music is mp3 format and can eat up CPU time.

5. Turn off pixel shaders if you have them on.
The reflections cause performance to degrade.

6. Lower the game resolution.
The game runs faster at 640x480 and 800x600.

Try changing your settings on draw distance and resolution as well as shading... I am using a GF2 on a 1.2ghz system and have yet to have any problems with this game unless its loading another area - and thats normal.
