3 towns?

So like instead of 3 camps... there's now 3 towns? That's a little unoriginal.

Camps in GII

There are 3 factions in GII, alright.
We chose to have three, because ite worked out well in GI.
I think 3 is ok, considering the amount of work for each factions (modeling, dialogues, etc.) and the number of choices to define your guild is, imho, sufficient.
We did not, however, build 3 cities, and that's it.
Just a brief overview:
One of the factions is the city. It has a harbour where the ships from the mainland arrive. The royal paladins have arrived and taken control of the city. Their mission is secret.
Next, there is the big farm. There is a kind of civil war forming up in the kingdom. The farmers always had to feed the royal armies, bt the king did not succeed in driving the orcs back to their caves, so the biggest farmer on the island hired mercenaries, who (after the barrier was gone) were looking for some kind of employment, anyway. With the help of the mercenaries, he drives the royal troops away from his land - so that they aren't able to feed their armies from his farms...
Next, there is a monastery in the mountains. Innos, God of Light and Truth, is worhipped there by the magicians of fire, who (in the "normal world" are mages as well as priets (they say, magic is a gift from the gods, and they kind of legetimize themselves with their magic)
All 3 factions have different relationships (like in G1) and you will be able to join ONE of them (like in G1) - This concept turned out to be cool, so why change it? More camps? More complicated story? A bigger company with more people to handle this? I don't think so...

Although more cities will always better, i think it is sufficient enough based on what Mike just said. Furthermore, we couldn't have everything we wants, right?.

Thanks for the info, Mike. Much appreciated. (Are you sure you're not giving away too much?)

Everytime I come across the word paladin, I keep picturing Arthas making his short little pudgy strides. Uggghh. Can't get it outta my head!

Too many WarCraft 3 Erb . Will there be any difficulties in joining one of them (like quests proving loyality or, like in GI, make important persons like you)?

The world already 3X the size of Gothic, and I've been playing Gothic for 7 months now, and still playing, enjoying it all the way. The towns are sure to be much bigger. I just hope that the hidden areas actually have worthwhile loot this time. Chests with lockpicks and torches are so dissapointing.

Your right.
But I think we can expect things to be better than G1...

I am glad that there will be only one town. It's enough for an area of 25 sqkm. It would be nice if there'll also be some little villages though.

@ Gaggin the Slayer
IIRC I have read somewhere a post by a dev telling that due to time constraints there wont be many secret areas with loot.

There will - in all probability - be a few areas to explore where you can meet characters from Gothic I, though...
