can I play Arx Fatalis without magic???

Hi everyone!

Iīve never played this game before and I was just wondering if it can be played without magic or spells, just as a fighter, like in Dungeon Siege, or if you necesarily have to train your character as a magician as well

Thanx a lot for your help

Welocme to the boards first off.
If you want to be a fighter, you can, but you will want some majic, not lots, but enough to use fireballs for battles and to enchant items and heal yourself. Using the quick slots makes it pretty easy for battle spells. I used the majic, but invested very few points in it as it goes up with some of the other skills, and with your characters level. Save the rest of the points for strengt, dex, object knowledge and such. Hope this helps.

Ever since KotOR last November I've tended to play a mage in RPG's (I had done NWN as a Paladin before that as my first RPG).

But I was dissuaded from playing a mage for Gothic II, but have been playing a full mage in Arx ...and it is loads of fun.

But I can clearly see that there is balance there for Mage, Fighter or Thief (can't say about Archer type, but it didn't seem good ... too cramped).

ok guys, thank you very much for your reply

Just another question: Iīve read in the guide that you can memorize a spell by casting it while pressing the Shift key... well, thatīs what I do, but nothing seems to happen... I canīt even see the three slots for the memorized spells, how can I display these slots???

thanx again!

What you do is hold the <ctrl> and <shift> keys while tracing the runes, and then release both keys after you've completed the spell, then you should see it onscreen in the lower left area (just to the right of your health). Do that 3 times and you're full.

One other tip if you haven't done it already, be sure to get the patch. You want to be sure you have v.117.

well, Iīm playing spanish version, which is v.117...

Two more questions:

1 - Iīve seen the list of the Secret words of power, but how can I know the effect of each one of them?

2 - Iīve already got the troll amulet from Greu, but I canīt equip my character with it (by pressing F or Enter): is this a bug?

Thanx alot for your attention

As for the secret words. It is an added bonus to play with. As you get higher levels try them out and see what happens. That is part of the fun. You can figure them out by the list in the PDF for what the runes do.
As for the amulet, you only have to have it in your inventory for it to work. Not a bug. Have fun.
