There's a Wizardry Archives available that has the entire series from Wiz1 to Wiz7Gold. Due to their age, they can be tricky to get running on a modern PC. I believe either otter or Bilbo can talk you thru getting them going if you track down a copy of the games.

Wiz7 was re-released a few years ago as part of the Ultimate Wizardry Archives (Wiz 1-6, plus two versions of Wiz7). If you can get your hands on that, play the Wizardry Gold version, as it's the improved version.

Or, more like 6 years ago, there was a "10 pack" of CDs, including Wizardry Gold, Doom, Wolfenstein, et al.

You won't find it in stores as a game by itself. Maybe e-bay? I know that people were selling copies of the Wiz Archives there a while ago.

Bilbo, I heard you can give me tricks to make Wiz7 running under Windows. I haven't got it yet, but I am determined to get it ASAP. Thanks in advance.

I found some tips at http://www.softwarespecialties.com/wizfaq_wiz7.html
Then I also wonder if I should go back as far as Wiz6. Sounds quite encouraging. I am not much distracted by old style graphics. Do you think it's worth a try? (I managed through Betrayal at Krondor, obly 2 years ago I think I should manage Wizadry as well).

Actually, I have no "tricks" for running Wiz7. Wiz Gold ran fine for me under both Win95 and Win98. As I'm still running 98, I haven't tried it on more recent versions. I can say I keep upgrading 98 from Microsoft's website, and nothing I've patched has interfered with its performance, so it's likely that it will run on ME or 2000 (XP I'm not so sure about, but I think it probable).

Wiz Gold (the upgraded #7) was designed to run under windows. If you're stuck with an older copy of "Crusaders of the Dark Savant" (the un-upgraded Wiz7), then you may want to consider running it in MS-DOS mode instead of Windows, although per the manual it will run under Windows. I never tried the older version, just the newer one, although I do have both.

I do have a suggestion for running Wiz6, wihich I did give Otter - boot up in MS-DOS mode (don't drop there from the desktop, but actually boot without installing Windows). But other than me, I don't know anyone who has Wiz6 currently installed.

Wiz6-Wiz8 form one trilogy. Wiz1-3 was one; 4 and 5 were truly stand-alone. And then there was the last one, 6-8. Wiz 1-3 are fun to replay, even now, as they're relatively short. Wiz4 I never won, I found it too frustrating. Wiz 5-7 get progressively bigger. Wiz7 will take your more time to play than Wiz8!

Having said that, and Otter will confirm, it's easy to create "uber-characters" in Wiz7 by class changing. (This has been changed in Wiz8; see other threads here regarding class changing.) So what you can do is develop multi-classed characters up to a certain point, and then import them to get more statistics higher at the beginning. (Imported characters get the statistics they had - with any statistic above 20 being reduced to 20.) Now this won't get you to see the special intros, of which there are 3 depending on which ending you reached in Wiz7, but it will give you a head start.

Well, after i played through W-7 a couple times, i discovered character-rotating, and stood my next bunch at the control door and black-chipped them all through L6 in a series of professions that led to points in all skills; then at the demon arena intersection on Crypt Isle to continue at a faster pace when they got tough enough. That got me 100's in everything "really fast" . At that time i was waiting for W-8 to be released, and i just went back and killed a few more demons every couple days, getting ready to import.

I recommend to play Wizardry7 instead of Wizardry 7 Gold. (moving is faster)

you need a patch for newer computer systems:

http://www.geocities.com/pb_wizardry/pages/downloads.html

http://www.geocities.com/pb_wizardry/pages/w7/ds.zip

try mo'slo (computer slowdown) for Wizardry 6.

Playing through Wizardry 6,7 and 8 with one party is interesting , because you can get some items only in Wiz 6, some only in Wiz 7; the story is a triology; you are cool if you play without class changing - true role playing

If you turn off all the sound, combat goes incredibly fast in W-7 (and Gold), but since it's phased, you still have plenty of time to select your options. No difference i could see in normal movement. If you leave the sound on, and just hit return to skip ahead when something slow happens (like a spell), W7 is faster than Gold.
