Now here's my top disliked list for the moment:
Descent to Undermountain. Yes, it was THAT bad.
Everquest. No thanks, I have a career in RL.
Lands of Lore 4. Pathetic!
Currently I am having a bad time with Archangel. _________________ Rendelius

BTW i can't figure out why people who played Gothic usually didn't like or hate MW (at least that's what i have seen in G1 & G2 forums). Maybe people who played Gothic have a very different mind set from MW's player??? As for myself i think both MW & G are very near in quality with different weakness and advantages, although i like MW a little more...
Reviews painted Gothic as nothing special, and possibly flawed by the controls; a second rate game. MW was reviewed as THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD. Initially, I couldn't wait for MW, and bought Gothic as something to play while I waited. After playing Gothic for a while, I went to MW when it came out, but MW felt so slow, clunky and stiff that I went back to Gothic and finished the game. I hoped that I could adjust to MW later.
I got sucked in to Gothic immediately because the game involved me and reacted to my actions like no other game has. The control problem turned out to be not much of a problem and the NPCS were engaging. In MW the characters and society barely seem to notice your presence or have a life of their own.
Gothic's game world was so beautiful, realistically modeled and interesting to explore that MW's large, but dull repetative play-space seemed uninviting and synthetic. I managed to get over my initial disapointment with MW and play for a good while with the help of plug-ins, but never felt really compelled to continue. Divine Divinity now has pulled me in, and I don't miss MW at all _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |

MW would be my first vote for worst CRPG. (what a piece of s**t that game turned out to be)
I hope you do not mean Morrowind :].
I sure do soldier-boy Maybe not THE worst ever, but for all the hype that was created around it...and then for it to turn out the way it did...it was definitely THE most disappointing RPG EVER (for me). All that technology and time and (more importantly) money invested to create what? A graphical book? There is more reading in MW than there is trying to complete "War & Peace" and thats an 800 page novel...yuck. Background info is fine but novels and novels of it isnt. And then of course theres (Combat, believability, immersiveness, sterility...yadda yadda) the list goes on and on.
Its funny how things go. I was on here last year saying NWN would never get off the ground cause of all the delays in the launch, and how they are leading people on and that turned out to be my favorite 3/4 view rpg for 2002 |

yeah I'm glad Morrowind was so bad that everyone not on RPGDOT liked it more than Gothic Gothic...I thought that was a type of architecture? and it's the name of a video game...hahaha _________________ "It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible." |

True, it's an architecture, but the first definition in the dictionary for Gothic is:
1 a : of, relating to, or resembling the Goths , their civilization, or their language b : TEUTONIC, GERMANIC c : MEDIEVAL d : UNCOUTH, BARBAROUS
Make sense? _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |

true, but I am on a crusade against overly belligerent Gothic fanboys...nothing wrong with Gothic, but something is wrong with some of the people that go off a LITTLE too much on Morrowind...I can understand if they didn't like it, they just don't have to devote so much time and effort to dissing it...or at least that's the way I feel _________________ "It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible." |

I understand your frustration, but you will only end up starting a flame war with this tact.
I believe that many of the extra negative comments are an attempt to compensate for the many overly generous reviews that MW garnered that fail to even mention many of the game's flaws. It's called backlash and can be expected in situations where something is extremely popular and hyped. Best to ignore it _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |

Hmm. That mean different ways in appreciating different games would produce a different reactions. Personally i like reading, and the readings in Morrowind is the best i ever found in any CRPGs that i have played. If player could appreciate it, then player would more likely feel the immersive factor in MW. Through the readings we know the world of MW and it history, society and culture; through the readings that we will found interesting stories with suspense or surprise ending, same as when we feel touched after reading real books or novels. From my experience second CRPg that require a lot of reading probably is Planescape: Torment, although it's through the dialogs option.
Anyway, this thread is not about Morrowind vs. Gothic.

Pools of Radiance 2. I listened to the people. I saw the reviews. Yet definately I put my money on the counter and took my chances.
I never got out of the first dungeon. It was terrible.
- The computer assigns you feats and skills.
- Your stats suck, so they overcompensate with a ludicrous amount of magical items.
- Combat could have been good... but it was so slow it hurt. Waiting five minutes for 12 skeletons to surround your cleric so you can hit turn undead is horrible.
- All of the rooms looked the same in the first dungeon. SUre, they're all part of the same complex... but really... SOME variety than **** brown would have been appreciated.
- Your party couldn't get more than one screen apart, thus making scouting ahead with the rogue to plan for attacks impossible
They rewrote the 3E Core Rules because they found them unbalanced... and in exchange they lost the ESSENCE of 3E. Variety. All you got to pick with your characters when you levelled up was class and attribute point every 4 levels. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I was bored one cold fall day a year or two ago, and was looking for a game. Sometimes a wild-card pick pays off, like Fakk2 did for me. Little did I know the 50.00 horror that awaited me. "Clans" is truly the worst RPG, and prolly one of the worst games period, I have ever played. Annoying sound, idiotic pc ai, truly linear gameplay (you hit an arrow to go to the next area), sub-par graphics, and no character advancement whatsoever. The way you get "stronger' is to get better items, there is no Xp leveling scheme. But these items arent randonly generated, they are set items, you can never break out of the mould pre-cast for your toon.
Worst ever- "Clans"
Abandon hope all ye who enter there _________________ “Then away out in the woods I heard that kind of a sound that a ghost makes when it wants to tell about something that's on its mind and can't make itself understood, and so can't rest easy in its grave, and has to go about that way every night grieving.”-Mark Twain |
