Class switching question

I'm new to the forum. Hi everyone.

I have a question about class switching. One of my characters is a level 15 monk, and I'm considering switching him to a mage. If he continues to fight unarmed while he's a mage, will his Martial Arts skill increase from use?

First off, welcome to the forums.

Skills which the new class does not use will not increase. Since a mage does not normally get martial arts as a skill, your "former monk" won't get any increases in that skill.

Thanks for the info, and the welcome.

My Monk already has his Martial Arts and Critical Strike over 75, so I thought I could more efficiently develop the character by making him a Mage to learn more magic, and allow him to develop his monk skills through use. It won't be that easy, it seems.

I guess I'll remain a Monk for a while to work my Martial Arts and Critical Strike up to 100.

Or you can cross-class to another class that uses those skills and gives you the Wizardry skill.

Of the characters that have the Wizardry skill (Mage, Bishop, Samurai), none have the Martial Arts skill. An alternative would be the only other character with Martial Arts, the Ninja. They have Alchemy instead of Wizardry. The Alchemy skill has quite a few good spells in it too.
