Why is there such a differnce?

I've noticed that people with just about the same exact system are having different experiences with the game. In terms of framerate. Why is this?
How can you have almost the exact same system, and have two different outcomes? Is it the dtail level they have it set up at? I'm just trying to get an idea how my new system is going to do. So, i'm looking for posts that have my specs. But, i'm seeing different results. Just wondering what i can expect.

Athlon 2000+ xp
512 ram
GeForce 4 ti4600
sb audigy
19" monitor

I don't

Well, i have the game. But, i haven't played yet. Because i haven't got my new computer yet. And it won't play on the one i have. I was just wondering why some people with the same specs are having different results when it comes to the framerate.

It is a matter of how U have the system set up and if you have tuned your system as well as the next guy. Not all systems are created equal even if they share almost the same components..

Basically, saying "I have an Athlon 2000+" says little about the power of the machine. It depends on other components: harddrive speed, how well components work together and such. If there is a bottleneck, the system won't be faster than the weakest part.

The second thing is that framerates, even when measured, are pretty subjective, at least when measured in Morrowind. You will find spots where you get 60fps, others where you get 10.

If you are going for smoothness, these are the things to do in order:
shadows off
Antialiasing off in the settings for your video card
decreasing AI distance
decreasing viewing distance
decreasing screen resolution.
decreasing color depth

Faster cards bear larger resolutions better. A GeForce 4 Ti 4600 won't become faster when you go from 1280x960 to 800x600. A GeForce 2 MX will.

So many things to think about when you are optimizing for performance.
