Ni, the percentage won't be reflective of the world's understanding of the word... the people here are almost all above the 65th percentile.

yes. but i have to admit that i don't know the history of the term. it sounds like it might have latin roots...but that is just about every word in english. why do you ask?

Of course I know. I majored in classical languages. But you don't need much expertise at all to discover the meaning of the phrase. Its origins are far juicier meat to mull over.

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

If anyone didn't know what it meant, like me perhaps, then this person would look in the dictionary. Just letting u know.

Where is the "I don't care!" option?

I didn't know that it wasn't common knowledge. Knowledge of classical languages is not required - its a term I've heard used all my life (and use sometimes)

no, but it sure is nice! i think it is a shame that people don't spend more time studying classical langues. i think they ought to be required in schools. i was never given the option to take latin or greek in highschool and i feel like i was somehow cheated. that is why this next year for graduate school i will be taking latin.

Enjoy Latin. I *still* remember some of my high school Latin. Although I have to admit, I wish I'd taken Spanish ... I could actually use that on an almost daily basis.

A couple weeks ago, a guy who was fluent in Latin came to our house... coincidently, he is an Archbishop of Rome (I never knew that Jesus could be Gold-Plated). Really, though, if you want to read the dark secrets of the Church's Records, you must know Latin.
