Lock up at same place EVERY time... |
|
So, I go into Wesselin (or whatever it is) and kill motherloads of spiders.
I get to the last one, and destroy it. I go through the door behind it... And that's where my problem starts. It locks up my hard drive...(It vibrates on and off steadily until I power off and back on).
Has anyone else had this problem?
I've tried all of the 'Troubleshooting' (No sound; 640 x 480) and nothing different....
700Mhz Athlon, Win 98SE, SB Live, 384 RAM, 60 G Hard drive, Radeon 8500. |

If this is only place where you experience such problems, then I suggest:
- place verifydata=true after you shortcut command line, your whole shortcut command line should look like this
"c:\program files\microsoft games\dungeon siege\dungeonsiege.exe" verifydata=true
It will test you files. If there is problem only on one place, then it seems that it is corrupted file or something like that.
If it will return error or probably also if it will not return error, try uninstall, defragmentation and install again (this game has surprisingly often problems with corrupted files and undefragmented harddisks).
Read also this post about problems with Radeon and about some changes in its setup.
I suppose that you have latest (sound, video, motherboard) drivers and DirectX.
If nothing will help, post it and we will try to find another solution.
Good luck. |

Also, don't overlook doing a reinstall from the cd. It will leave all your save files intact, but re-write any possibly corrupted game files. Worked for me when something got corrupted.

does the HDD spin up then stop, then spin up again? or the dreaded click click click? or just stalls? Could be a corrupted file (reinstall), a bad sector or a surface strike, how old is the drive? _________________ Sane: to know when your doing something crazy |

It's a 2 month old drive. The last time I defragged it was 12 days ago.
I'll try that target thing to see if it works, and if it does or doesn't, I'll reinstall anyway. |

Hey, it worked! The \terrain.res file may be corrupt.....
Thanks.. The next 20 minutes will be spent on reinstalling, then I go off to work. |

Good that this helped.
It is really strange that this game has so many corrupted installations. |

Yeah, I've heard that it may be due to an attempt to slow piracy of the game, not that it is working.
