1024*768... IMO the best balance between quality and quantity.

Really? IMO 1024*768 is too small for a 19" monitor.

Provided you HAVE a 19" monitor . I managed to keep my 15"er until it fell apart from old age... right, my 17"er is about a year old. So much for the private sector.
As for business:
For a lot of bigger companies the standard screen resolution still is 800*600 (at least with three of the bigger German ones), with no chance for the normal folks to change it (I just happen to know the admin which is why I have the luxury of a 1024*768 resolution at work).

800x600
I have a 17" monitor, but I like having a nice black border around my wallpaper.

1024X768 works quite well for my 17" monitor.

1152 x 864. This resolution is good for 17" and upwards. Since 17" is becoming quite commonplace (standard with most new PC's) it's a good resolution to adopt. Some people still like 1024 x 768 on a 17". Well, some people like large print. I don't.

If you don't have 17" already... you have to get it for Gothic 2 or it just won't work.

1280 x 1024 is just an awkward resolution. The height x width ratio is different from all other screen sizes and is a headache for wallpaper makers.

Why the poll? Is RPGDot not insterested in supplying several sizes of wallpaper to its patrons? In any case... it's easier to get a bigger wallpaper and shrink it... than the other way.

1280x1024 is a wrong resolution. It should be 1280x960.

It is also a prefered resolution IMHO as it is always easier to scale down than to scale up. Scaling up causes graphical distortions (trying to interpolate missing bits) while scaling down will be much easier and less noticable (just dropping unnecessary bits).

1280*1024 looks better on a 19" monitor then the 1280*960 resolution.
