Some help and Info when playing as a Fire Mage

I have completed gothic 2 once as a paladin and know i have started the game as a mage. I would like to tell some info about this guild.
1.How i must train my attributes?(mana-dexterity-strength) and how much LP should i spare to each weapon for melee either one or two handed and how much on ranged either bow or crossbow?
2.Should i keep some empty runes for the latest magic circles (5&6) or i ll find some empty runestones either by merchants or some spread out to the world at the latest chapters.(I mention that beacuse in chapter 2 i had about 4 empty runestones and that would be a nice chance to keep them for the latest magic runes like army of darkness and not to spare them for runes like ice arrow

1. It all depends on how you want to play it. Remember that when you join the monastery training strength, dexterity and fighting will cost twice as much as normal. The rest depends. Some like to play like as:
  • Fighting-mages: Stay guildless as long as you can (kill everything in the first world) and spend many lp on fighting and strength.
  • Thief-mages: Train your dexterity and one-handed, guildless, and then you'll also be able to pickpocket a lot. Use dexterity weapons in case you need a sword.
  • Regular mages: just go in the monastery and start being a mage. Just learn a minimum of fighting (say 30-50%) and some strength.

You can finish the game no matter what way you choose.

2. Not needed. Try some spells scrolls to learn how the spells work and you'll notice that they are only a few that are really usefull. In the end you'll problably even have some spare runes. Only make runes from the spells that are really usefull or devastating.

Btw, use the search option there are way more posts about playing as a mage.

and save all your king sorrels until you have maxed out your mana (250) then learn how to make mana + 10 potion and drink, you will end up with about 500 mana.

circle 1 fire arrow

circle 2 fireball

circle 3 ice block + summon skeleton

circle 4 lightning + death to undead

circle 5 wave of ice

circle 6 all of 'em

and of course healing runes are always handy

circle 1 fire arrow

circle 2 fireball

circle 3 none

circle 4 lightning, destroy undead, heavy fireball

circle 5 wave of ice, maybe summon demon

circle 6 all of 'em, except shrink monster

You can find the small healing rune, that's enough. You don't really need to learn the other healing runes

I have to disagree with Sem. I think that "shrink monster" is the strongest spell. Because if you shrink a dragon it will be a piece of cake to kill it. PLUS you can go and kill the black troll with the shrink spell no problem. And of coarse all the other trolls and big guys are piece of cake!

You only get "shrink monster" later in C5, so it's late to use on black troll or the first 4 dragons. Still, if it works on the undead dragon, it is still useful. And where you get the troll tusk?

You have to learn taking teeth. Then when killing a troll, the tusks should show up. Never liked much in circle 5 except wave of ice. Never used shrink monster. Since a troll can be killed easily without it. Just be a goblin.

And you can buy one spell in chapter 5 and you can find one in chapter 6, so you'll have two shrink of monster spells to use against the last two dragons.

Well, shrink monster reduces monstes to harmless cute dolls. If not for the xps, I would let them go.

I asked this in another thread too, a long time ago, but does it also work on normal size monsters like Orcs and Lizardmen? I only used it once on the Firedragon in Irdorath. It became a very cute little dragon, but midget orcs and tiny lizardmen would also be cool.

I haven't tested it on undead dragon. I am sure it doesn't work on seekers. But it works on a wide range of monsters(orcs, golems, demons, harpies, wargs and glin skeletons). I even found that it worked twice on harpies: if you use it twice, the size of harpies even reduced more.

Still, I think it is a more of a fun spell than practical.

It works on every non-human npc and seekers are humans to see that posess them and take their clothes off.
Edit: Forgot my opinion i think its more fun cus you'll get it soooo late in game but its still useful in the halls of irdorath (dunno if the name is correct cus i've only played german version)

You need those too. Otherwise it would become really boring, just burning people/monsters with a fireball or something.
