It appears to me that this game is being overlooked by many people..

I'm currently waiting for the game to ship in Holland, and i don't understand why i read so little about the game on rpg-related sites...After playing the demo i found this game quite impressive! Espescially the humor in the books and the funny remarks from the npc's set this game apart from (c)rpg's that take themselves way to serious. Don't get me wrong, i love a deep, dark and serious plot, but life is more than always saving the world huh?

I'm also waiting till a rpg-dot review appears, so i can see if the full game is as impressive as the first part from the first impressions!

I am playing the game for some time now (character-Level 31) and it is fun. It starts like Diablo, but it mutates to a real rpg after a few starting quests. The skill system is great, it enables you to create any kind of mage/thief/fighter you can think of. The game is great - many quests, many fights, many dialogues, much humor.
With the second mega patch (29 MB) the game runs nearly crash free.
The story is interesting, many scripted events enhance the "story telling feeling". You always want to know what happens next. There are challenging fights with "big bosses" or "big monster armies", some difficult puzzles - all you need.

Wow, sound very good to me.

Almost same with Gothic2, not much publicity.
Maybe most gaming sites is in America, so naturally games developed outside it (in Europes etc) won't get much attention from them.

i think if the games are good, most more informed gamer will go to buy it anyway.

The RPGDot review will be based on the English edition. As the publisher does not send out review copies to gaming sites before the game can be bought in the shops, you can't expect a review to come up any earlier than somewhere in the second half of september (releasedate is 13 september).

I understand the reason for your review being based on the upcoming English version, but perhaps a little more feedback for this game and Arx could be given to whet our appetites even more. After all, I've pre-ordered them both already, but I'd like to hear more about them from the lucky people who are already able to play them.

Divine Divinity Pro & Contra:

+ huge game world / long playing time
+ interesting story (once more you are the one, who saves the world )
+ good dialogues (with some humor)
+ many items, weapons, armor to find and buy
+ weapons and armor can be enchanted
+ great skill system, you can choose from many different skills (each with 5 levels) to create your own custom character
+ some challenging fights (real time)
+ some nice puzzles
+ many, many quests
+ some hard to find places, secrets ...
+ good map system (yes, you can add your own comments)

- too much Diablo-like combat, often too easy in my opinion (I have to critizise this in most modern rpgs)
- the game graphics looks "quadratic" (Do you remember Arcanum ?)
- the computer AI could be a bit better


Summary:

No Hard Core rpg like Wizardry 8, but an interesting addictive action rpg with a lot of quests, a good story and a good skill system - a single player Icewind Dale.

seem like Divinity got many things that fit my tastes.

huge game world / long playing time = always a big plus for me. i hated when you feel just get started but the game is nearing the end.

hey, compare to yesteryear CRPGs (1980's & 1990's) do you think current CRPGs gameplay time getting longer or shorter?

Wizardry 8 is shorter than Wizardry 7
Arx Fatalis is shorter than Ultima Underworld 2
Morrowind is shorter than Daggerfall
Might & Magic 9 is shorter than Might & Magic 2
Fallout is shorter than Wasteland


With simple grafics it was easier to create big game worlds with good stories and fantastic gameplay. Today all the man power is often used for grafic-engines, cut scenes, music etc.

Thanx for the short but inforich review "Hidden X". I know we share (almost) the same taste of CRPG games, so a recommandation comming from you, will make the game a sure buy for me when we get the english version.

i have started with the C64, then went to the Amiga and now the PC is my system. I never played console games. I played through ca. 80%-85% of all released western-style crpgs and only a few eastern style crpgs on these systems.

Never had a C64 myself, but my friends did and we played quite a few adventures and RPG's. I started out with my own PC in the late 80's and played many many CRPG's as well, also mostly western style CRPG's.
Never owned a console, but have played a few console games at my friends. I prefer my PC anytime, eventhough the consoles are getting much better in performance and diversity of games.

After 180 hours (or so) i have finally beaten Divine Divinity, my character (a female axe fighter) was level 51 (near 52) at the end. If someone has specific questions - just ask.

I could tell a lot of game details here, but i don't want to spoil the fun for you.



One Spoiler: I you meet a chick called "Josephina" make sure you have a lot of scorpion-traps with you.

Okay for starters:
-Did all the 180 hours have the famous fun-factor, or did the game drag out unnecessarily!
- Was the 51 levels of character development fun, and did you feel any real personal impact on your character?
- Did the story keep you interested, and did it satisfy you to the end!
- Was the gameworld alternating enough!
- What's the games strongest side in your opinion!
-What's the games weakest side in your opinion!
