Managing factories, setting jumps
   

I have an SPP factory. Next to where I set the price to buy crystals at it says jumps/none. I can't seem to change the jumps setting there? Is it supposed to be changed there? Down below under advanced there is a jumps setting that you can change. Is that for selling only? Thanks for the help!

IIRC, the figure you are referring to represents how many jumps to the nearest source of crystals. In other words, 0 jumps means crystals are avaiable in the current sector. It's a useful tool to know whether the setting at the bottom (which is for both buying *and* selling is appropriate.

Dhruin is correct. Be very careful how you set the jump number; two is recommended, rarely more than 3 or you leave yourself open to having the ship attacked. Check what other sectors are within a 2 or 3 sector radius.

Jumps: None beside the price for crystals is different than jumps: 0 beside the crystals.

Jumps none means that nowhere in the universe currently has crystals available for that price or less: better adjust up. Jumps 0 means there are crystals available in your sector. Leaving the price on default is a very good idea for crystals.

The maximum jump setting, which really shouldn't go higher than two... preferably 1, if there are two or three trading stations that sell crystals (not all do) within a one jump radius, determines how far your little transport will go to get what it needs.

Lower is always better, but occassionally you do have to risk things and set it to two or three to reach crystals. Don't bother setting to four or higher: Your ship probably won't make it there and back again alive. Even if it does there's a good chance by the time you reach the crystals a computer SPP has bought them out.

Very silly that the jump number should apply to both buying and selling!!

Question 2 - Is there any difference (other than up front price) between factories? The Boron power plant is signficantly pricier than the Argon version. Is it more effecient?

Question 3 - How the heck can I get details on a ship I want to buy before I buy it? When comparing the Boron and Argon (both elements by the way), transports there is quite the price difference - but it seems silly that the dockyard won't let me examine the ship before purchace!!

Boron, Argon, Xenon are all elements I believe. Khaak bears a close resemblence for a german word for... um... offal. Paranid is taken from Paranoid. No idea where split is supposed to be ripped off from.

Yeah, they are elements. The odd thing though, is that both Argon and Xenon are noble (inert) gasses, while Boron is pretty inert metaloid (it comes right before Carbon) ... it used to be used in doping semi conductor and is pretty light. Okay, that's it for my knowledge of those elements with out doing research.

Split from Banana? Or maybe they were founded from a splinter group?
