Hey all...
I was having issues with Gothic yesterday.
My setup:
WinXP Professional
1.6ghz abit AMD athlon
512 pc2100 mushkin ram
Gothic ran fine for me.. until I had some issues yesterday... I would go into a fight, especially with those damn bloodflies, and *wam* I get kicked with an error, and Gothic quits. I thought it was the latest driver for nVidia, so I rolled it back. I also put back the bikini shot that you all said I should remove if I want to see some naked ass in Gomez's place, just in case.
Well turned out I was still having issues - so I saved my saved-games, and then completely removed the game and reinstalled. No problems since.
So if anyone has any issues like that, just a complete uninstall, deletion of the directory, and reinstall - appears to fix that type of issue.

from my experience this is an EAX problem with gothic, i experienced the same thing
go into the games sonud properties, set it to 'Direct Sound HW' and make sure reverb effects are off
this fixed the problems with me
Generally, you should get that error anytime you engage large groups of monsters. This should fix it, if it doesnt let me know.
