Troika hits hard times?

Rumours have swirled around a few message boards since Vampire: Bloodlines shipped that Troika had either let go of a team or closed shop -- but nothing of any substance that warranted posting surfaced. Hearing these rumours, GameSpot included this in their recent <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/01/28/news_6117482.html" target="_blank">Rumor Mill</a>, along with a brief but cryptic statement from co-CEO Leon Boyarsky:<blockquote><em>"We are basically perusing some options...after the beginning of February, we'll be making a statement."</em></blockquote>While this does sound ominous, it's worth remembering that the original thread that prompted GameSpot was little but conjecture - which neither proves nor disproves the claim.

They're really screwed now. I hope BioWare buys them up. EA doesn't need to get its fingers on them.

I sure hope not, although I haven't been terribly impressed with any of Troika's games (despite being a huge Fallout fan). I was really looking forward to their post-apoc game.

Uh oh. From No Mutants Allowed:

Evidently Troika is indeed in some trouble according to this thread@Mapcore, David Marsh (Level Designer at Troika) had said this: "Everyone got layed off because activision pulled the funding."

EA probably doesn't even know they exist. What's the last single-player they've made? Ultima IX? I'm hoping for the BioWare thing, too, if things are really going down the shitter with them, hell even JoWood would be a viable option.

Actually Marsh never said that. I couldn't find him stating that anywhere in the thread, of course he didn't exactly deny either...

That's really sad But I'm sure the great minds behind Fallout will find another job in a larger company but certainly with the freedom of decision they used to have in their solo -troika- adventure.

I think Bethesda Softworks outbidding them on the Fallout 3 franchise really hurt them bad, they seemed to be pretty deep into the FO3 engine already assuming it was almost sure they'd get the rights

In a following adventure one of them said they'd use it to make their own post apoc rpg, just not Fallout themed, but that, I guess, didn't interest any publisher.

Seriously, get a life! It's the 4th forum I've been, and in every each of them I see you say the exact same thing. What did Troika did to you, did they beat you up as a kid?
I really don't understand how someone can be sooo happy with the possible demise of a company.

Are you an RPG fan? You shouldn't be working with a site like RPGCodex since you obviously don't care for the genre. I haven't seen you say one thing "decent" about a single RPG game in the market. Let's see, you hate Bioware, you hate Interplay, you hate Bethesda, you hate Obsidian, you hate Troika, seriously, how's left???

I hate all those companies except trokia. ToEE is pure rpg goodness and the best thing to hit the rpg market since fallout. Bloodlines is a great semi-rpg, and arcanum was a good rpg (would have been great if they didn't have gay RT combat which crippled the TB combat).

With trokia gone there is nothing to look forward to from big named devs, from my perspective at least. I guess its time to convert to a Spiderweb fanboy. Spiderweb and Eastern Europe devs, an the good actual rpgs released every couple years from indies like Prelude to darkness and Alliance with Rome. Other than that, I crap on the rpg market and their "rpgs." Oh look, a dialogue option--this games an rpg.

Everyone knows if it ain't TB it ain't a real rpg. RT, Twitch combat is for woman and child molestors. And kids that wear fila visors up side down and crooked on their heads. And people that cruise in the passing lane. And people that don't call their mothers on mother's day or their mothers birthday. Or people cheat on their spouses. You know, the dregs of the earth. The steaming masses of refuge. RT, Twitch combat fans.

Calm down, Roqua. Child-molesters is a little too much.

Come on Dhruin, thats my staple: saying silly things that are too much so no one believes what I say since it is silly.

But on a darker note, I joined the dark side and now play WoW. Its wierd how a dev who I think never made a good game can make an mmorpg that I think is great. WoW is a min/maxers dream come true. Being smart and a system thinker realy gives you an advantage over the average player.

I hate mmorpgs and I hate blizzard's games, but WoW is great. I have a lvl 60 rogue on dragonblight. I also have the uber l33t elemental leather prof at 300. I can make the most fantastic leather items with it that are in such high demand. And farming for the materials is wonderful and fun. Weeeeeeeeeeeee.
