LMFAO...yep 45, I couldnt believe it. And I wasnt even complete that was just comparing my new team to the old team and deciding who should come around again and who doesnt make the cut. And then the thought of adding a new class...forget it, I had to go to bed or I'd be pulling an all nighter comparing stats and thinking of formations, etc
To me the whole party/character creation is the best part of any RPG, to finish the game is simply for bragging rights, to crush it by the time you get to the end is the fruits of your labor paying off

Allow me to clarify...

ONLY 45 minutes?

Character development is by far my favorite part of RPGs, and the flexibility of Wiz8's parties makes the game hog heaven for me. Like I said in another post, it's the joy of putting together parties and seeing how they come together that's led me to have over 50 parties that didn't make it past Arnika.

The party was built to let may play through the game with the classes I hadn't played with before, and play with some new weapons. Honestly, I don't think this party is going to make it to AP, but we'll see. [Honesty note - I haven't fired up Wiz8 for a few weeks. It may be a while before I get back to it to see how far I take this party.]

I know what you mean, Bilbo. All this talk with Shrapnel gave me a bit of the bug again, so after I gave up on MW, one of the games I tinkered with was Wiz8. I slapped a party together with some classes I hadn't done anything with in a while and blew thru the monestary. I sorta let them get stomped on the Arnika Road, though, because I wasn't really happy with the way things were shaping up.

Dwarf lord (to try otter's dual mace)
Human Samurai (hate sami's, but I needed access to the mage book)
Human bard (developing as a tank)
Mook Ranger (needed someone to do alchemy)
Rawulf Priest (hadn't done a pure priest in a while)
Gnome Psionic (hadn't used either half of that combo in a LONG time)

I was done in by the lack of crowd control spells. The psi had just picked up psychic fire, so he didn't have any skill or many spell points. Insanity is a great spell until you come up against a boatload of plants...

Dte, I can see what you mean about playing a team as far as Arnika to see if they gel or not then restarting. Had to do a few tweak before I could set out again. You can just get a feel for when a team works

Why a dwarf lord as opposed to a dracon one (with same SPs and better pros)

ANY team will work if you're willing to be patient and work with them. I'm just not as patient after all the time I've spent with the game. Now it's always a balancing act between trying "newer" things and going with a group that fits my playing style well.

As for the debate between the dracon and the dwarf- As you noted, they end up with nearly identical starting stats (because the lord class has so many minimums), so it comes down to secondary abilities. The dracon can breathe acid, while the dwarf gets natural damage resistance. Since you can't attack and breathe acid at the same time, I've never been impressed with that ability. My lord was going to be my prime tank, so the damage resistance seemed more valuable.

I imagine Bilbo's wanting to have someone able to use the Giant's Sword (a powerful extended range sword), which means he has to have a mook that can handle a sword.

You know the more I play the bishop the more Im thinking of making a brute squad of 4 pure melee and 2 bishop to rile them all up.

Bishop is nicer than I thought, not only does it get to play jack of all trades, but it also gets the *good* spells from all the realms and in a relatively short time too, I thought my bishop would be casting the 'accessory' spells like 'Purify air', 'Sane Mind', 'Cure lesser condition'...you know, all the spells you would *like* to cast if you had the time in the fight
Instead, she was popping off Bless, Magic screen, Whirlwind, Mindblast all before level 10, nice...

I didnt know dwarf had a nat res to dmg (damn!)

My 2nd team is nice, but I dont see that 'diamond in the rough' early on like I did with the 2 fighters taking point...maybe thats a good thing. I mean, they are kickin' a$$, just not as violently as team 1 and Im clicking a hell of a lot more now with the extra magic user lol

IRT the Bishop - they are many reasons that I keep playing Bishops. There is never a round of combat that there is not a spell to cast. They get a ton of spell points. You can choose all the best spells from each spellbook, or, if you want, get all the spells in the game (like I am currently doing).

With multiple Bishops, they become more interchangable. Either one can cast a needed spell. I usually use the one with the most spellpoints at the time in a particular realm. With Bishops, I can go many battles without having to recharge spellpoints (just use Magic Nectar and Mana Stones most of the time until I can camp at a safe location).

Every party except my first has had at least 2 Bishops, and I have to say that my current party with 4 Bishops (and 2 Fighters for a "living wall") has been the most fun yet.

everything you say is true, so whats the point of playing a true mage or priest if you can get the best of both worlds with a bishop?
I should have gone 2 bishs instead of P,M and Bish ... I could have fit a bard into my party ...dang

Also, with all that spell casting and prep work, you must play round for round battles instead of continuous?

Just hit hot keys; default examples: M = magic, battle will pause while you pore over the possibilities...U = use, same as above but for instruments, gadgets, bombs, amulets...(etc)...You can pick which char is highlighted with the numbers. You can see what all the keys do, and reassign them in the Options menu...

Mages and priests level up a lot faster than bishops. They're also easier for newer players to develop - less skills to focus on. My first party had 1 priest, 1 bard, 1 mage behind 3 tanks.

I always play on phased combat. It's not so much a matter of time to think, as it is a mastter of time to issue commands to 6+ characters.

Also, specialist casters (Mage, Priest, Alchemist, Psionic) get that 25% bonus to their spellbook. So you do not have to spend time training to learn spells faster. The specialist will always be more powerful in their spellbook than the same spellbook for the Bishop (max 125 for Mage, max 100 for Bishop). Bishops will usually be 1-2 levels behind a specialist because of experience requirements. Since specialists have less skills to develop, then you can develop their melee skills. With a Bishop, most of your points will go into your realms and spellbooks. Melee is developed much later in the game for a Bishop if at all.

I use a lot of practise, so if i have a Bishop, i don't spend any points on Pie or Wiz, only to 15 in Alc, and 30 in Psi. They usually keep their melee skills really close behind the fightier chars.
