This board has 14 pages, on each page there is at least 3 to 4 pools on this subject so … its between 42 and 50 something, and you though I couldn’t do it.

@Seth - yes, but it always fun to re-ask the question to one's self and see how the answer changes. Reliving the memories is well worth the small cost of seeing the same thread on occassion.

Hopefully the big poll will be different... I'm hoping that due to the fact the choices are based on everyone's nominations, and the fact that there are lots of them, it will prompt some discussion and continue to gather votes for a while... I'm going to post it up this weekend, assuming I'm allowed to post a poll with that many options.

The problem with these small polls is that they only offer a few options chosen by the author, so you can be almost 100% sure that "other" will be the top choice. Hopefully the gathering of other users' nominations will make a difference to that, but maybe not

I voted "other" by the way, although I did like Gothic a lot.

IIRC, Myrthos increased the allowable amount of poll options to 20 long, long ago. I don't know that I'd go too much over a dozen choices in your poll, though. There's a point where things get too thin to really stimulate much conversation.

On a side note, it seems this version of the poll is run by a younger (newer to the genre, at the very least) fan. The oldest game up there is about 2 years old.

Si! No fallouts, M&M, or Planescape. This is why I voted for 'other'

@piln
I can safely say that most people here who play PC games for at least 5 years have already their favorites, and it will be really hard for some new contender to shake the #1 spot. Fallout, Torment, even first BG, not to mention the really old classics like PoR, Dagerfall or Betrayal at K. are on many list as all time game. Newer generation will keep voting for Morrowind, Gothic or Arx (for the record there is nothing wrong with these games) and if they would be introduce to oldies, well…there would be no end to complains about graphics and sound.

Well said, Seth.

Graphics? We don't need no stinkin graphics. Heck, one of the biggest time-sinks I ever played had ASCII graphics and 4, count them, 4 unique sounds played thru your IBM speaker.

I too voted "Other", but if Wizardry 7-Crusaders of the Dark Savant were listed, that would have been my vote

@Seth, yep, I know where you're coming from. But you might be surprised to see which games got the most nominations - I was And I'm not 100% sure, but I think the nominations came from quite a range of age/experience. Anyway, only time will tell if it's worthwhile or not... personally I find it interesting to see how the same question can get different answers when the data is collected in different ways...

but I know what you're saying, and that is why I set up the nominations thread first... I wanted to get input from as many people as possible, rather than just the old-timers, or just the newbies .

Oh yeah, back to the subject ... as I said, I voted "other," and I think my favourite RPG would be one of the UWs, but my opinion on this changes like the weather... depending what mood I'm in it could also be Deus Ex or maybe Planescape:Torment.

Speaking of old games, I'm hoping the System Shock Hack Project comes to fruition, as it'll allow younger gamers to play the original SS and both UWs with better looks and control (and without needing DOS). I know a lot of these projects fall through, but this one sounds more practical than most... I really hope they pull it off...

Graphics do matter when they're presenting an obstacle to playing, for example: System Shock 1. Besides from beeing one of the few games to make me naucious, the graphics combined with the interface made the game SO frustrating.
The story was nothing special either.

Graphics does enhance the gaming experiance in many cases, just compare Daggerfall/Arena with Morrowind. Just think about games like Nethack or Arcane Arena of Magic with graphics.

Having played many old and new games, I can honestly say that new games > old games almost always. And that's not only because of graphics.
