Gothic 3 discussion and transilations
   

Gothic 3 latest informations.Some transilations from german articles interwies and forums.We don't know much about gothic3 yet but here is the latest information.We hope that gothic3 will be out in english soon since there are more money and time.Also the advertiising will be bigger than gothic2.

GRAPHIC ENGINE:

  • They use a licensed engine but it will be modified so drastically that you won't be able to tell from which game it was. They are also making a lot of the components themselves. So both licensed parts as own-made parts will be used to make G3
  • The games requirements won't be low
  • The grahpics will be a mix from unreal3 and halph life.
  • Many new NPCs with more moves and better A.I
  • Then there's something technical about the engine. DirectX 9 and higher (as soon as it's available). The newest Pixel-Shaders and so on, without letting to real Gothic feeling go away. They will keep it the sam style only much better


Kingdom of Myrtana:

  • The king's name is Rohtbar
  • The king isn't dead
  • The kingdom is full of orcs especially from the norh were orcs attack
    and in the capital
  • The capital's name is Myrtana

    ANIMALS:

  • There would be different species in each area and their skin will be differnet in each area
  • Many animals from gothic 2 no longer exists.Or will be changed.
  • Many new animals will be add and will be stronger.
  • The new animals will be stronger and will have more different ways to attack.


    TRADING:

  • It will change competly.It will be easier for the gamer.
  • You can sell your things in a heigter price than gothic2 (1/3 of the price)
  • The character's inventory will change.

    Orcs:

  • There will be different types not only warriors and elites
  • They will have a different armor in each area
  • They have surround the capital.
  • There is a group of people who has the charage to hunt the orcs

    Quilds:

  • There will be 4-5 quilds.
  • Each quild will be in a different area
  • You can join with 2 or more quilds at the same time
  • The orc hunters which lies into the mountains
  • The amazons.They will probably be in the jungle.
  • Lee's follower's in the desert
  • The paladins in the capital
  • Each guild has their own advantages and special techincs that you can learn if you jon them.Also there are many ranks in those quilds like assasine,scout and more.

    ARMOR:

  • The armor isn't like in gothic2 or gothic1.
  • You can buy gloves boots and different things.
  • Also you can wear more rings and amulletes.
  • We don't have more info about the armor but you can check the photo with the orchunter.

    AREAS:

  • It will be a big jungle,a desert ,the capital,mountains and southen islands
  • The world will be 3 times bigger than gothic 2 and the VoM


    A.I:


  • The people will have better A.I and the pathfind of the characters is improved
  • The animals will use the area (high grounds) to cause you more damage
  • If the animal is weaker than you it gets away from you.
  • The animals will attack you together

    VOICE RECCORDING:

  • Propably the same actors again
  • More people will be hired for the reccording


GENERAL

  • The boys from gothic1 and 2 will also be in gothic3.For sure gorn and diego will be in gothic3.
  • The faces of NPCs will have more characteristics.
  • Water supplies will play an importan role in gothic3
  • The battle betwin the three gods steel remains
  • Xardas will probably be an enemy in gothic 3
  • Tou will land somewhere in Myrtana.Maybe in the capital
  • You won't be shipwrecked
  • More moves in the combact style and also many new ways to finish someone.
  • They will probably be camels and horces in gothic3 since the areas will be 4-5 times bigger than gothic3.
  • The areas will be seperated and when you enter in a new one you will have to wait to be loaded.
  • Many new weapons armors spells mysteries and friends can be found and many special things to learn.
  • You can find more here in the first page which includes an interwiew or at page 11 which is a transilation abou the game's quilds.
  • Also the weather affects'll be changed,the snow'll be more realistic and the heroe and the other NPCs'll leave their footprint on the ground.
  • The new world'll have many mistaries to learn and places to discover.




    REALISE DATES:

  • Christmas of 2005(Third quarter of 2005)
  • The game will be realised first in Germany (as always)
  • Three monts later in english(but I don't believe them)or at the same time with german eddition

Does anybody knows something about the orcs.Ialso know how all started;

Many years ago, in a faraway country, there was a land called Myrtana.
It was a thriving kingdom. Year after year, the granaries were full and
the mines gave good copper, iron and Ore. No one wanted or needed.
The priests of the gods had great power and influence, and the gods
were keen to the people. The greatest was Innos, the god of the Sun
and the Law. He was revered as the first and highest god and his priests
were the Fire Mages. The priests of the god Adanos, who held the scales
between good and evil, were the mages of the circle of water.
There were no priests to serve Beliar, god of the death, for his might
was pure darkness.
The blooming cities were also centers of knowledge where magic, astronomy
or geography were studied. But joy and peace were soon replaced by want
and mistrust. So it happened that the neighboring empires became jealous
and wanted Myrtanas's treasures for themselves, and none more than Varant.
Armies of knights gathered on the hills of the Empire and ships made of
dark woods were seen on the horizon, raising frightening standards of war.
The armies of Myrtana were summoned to protect what was their homeland.
It was war.

The King's Armada sank ship after ship, but suffered great losses.
On the land, the first battles were easily won, but then
both sides altered victories. Despite the many battles won by Myrtana,
the Knights of Varant progressed in the land. The
war, which Myrtana thought would be short, lasted many moons,
skirmish after skirmish, battle after battle. And many,
who wanted to make a name for themselves, earn fortunes at war or
just protect their homeland, soon ended on the
battlefield. By thousands they came, and by thousands they died.
King Rhotbar did not only try to protect the borders of the kindgom,
but with his men he fought to reconquer villages and
counties deep into his country. And what he could not reconquer,
he destroyed. The war had already last more than four
seasons. But his strategic science, that of his generals, and the
alliance of army and magic allowed him, on a fine
spring morning, to stand in front of the doors of the Varant capital.
As if they woke up from a dream, the people of Varant
saw the army camping in front of their city and quickly surrendered.
The doors were opened, the weapons sheathed, and King Rhotbar and
his knights rode into town as true victors. The city was
not plundered, the people not made prisoners. The King executed the
leader of Varant, then appointed a regent and a council,
who were to rule the Empire from now on, and returned to Myrtana.
He had won the war, but the price was high.
Many men, sons, fathers and brothers had gave their life for the Empire.
Furthermore, the supplies were low and winter was
near. In many places there was hunger and distress.
During this winter, weakened by his wounds of war, King Rhotbar died.
His son, Rothbar II, accessed the throne without ceremony. He summoned
his priests, his advisors and his sages. Together,
they developped plans to bring back the Empire to the state of
prosperity that his father once knew.
Although the dreadful winter was over, another danger lurked upon
the kingdom. Orcish hordes from the North crossed the
border and plundered hamlets and manors. The king sent once again
his armies to the border. Countless battles took once
more many lives. It was just a short combat with no clear victor.
But King Rhotbar knew that the Orcs had become strong
enough to wage a war against Myrtana. Still, his own army was weak,
diminished and poorly equipped. In order to craft new
weapons, he needed Ore. The situation was overall bad, and worse in
the mining cities. Thieves and deserters ran galore and
many prisoners had fled from the mines.
The city of Khorinis, one of the main suppliers of Ore, was too
important for the King not to act. It was because, in the
mines of Khorinis, the prisoners extracted a special,
rare kind of Ore - Magical Ore.
This Ore, if rightly melted, could make a blade undestructible,
with an edge so sharp that no armor could resist it.
The King called the twelve most powerful Mages of the empire,
six from the circle of Water, and six from the circle of Fire.
He ordered them to create a magical barrier around the mining
city of Khorinis, in order to prevent the prisoners from
escaping. A Barrier, which could let living creatures enter,
but not escape. Together, the twelve mages started writing
a magical formula to invoke the barrier. As the formula was completed,
with the help of five magical focuses, which they
laid in a ritual pattern, they united their magical strength and
spoke the words of power.
The skies were torn asunder, and in deafening sounds of thunder,
it was there. The barrier stood there as a huge dome over
the land, covering a gigantic area - much bigger as planned. The
confused mages soon found out that they too were trapped
within the barrier. And the prisoners killed the guards, who were
trapped with them by the magical dome.
The mages and the prisoners did not join force, as the mages feared
their weapons, and the prisoners quickly understood
that without the mages, they did not stand a chance of escaping
this magical jail.
In the watchtowers gathered the prisoners, and at their head was
Gomez, who lead the resistance. The joy of victory was
soon replaced by concern about food and survival. The prisoner
knew that for goods and wares they depended heavily on the
outside world. The King needed Ore, as well.
So they came up with a plan to satisfy both parties.
The King will pay supplies of Ore with food and other goods, so the
prisoners could survive. But all of the prisoners were not interested
in working for the king. One of them was Lee. He left
the town and many followed him. They founded a new camp, next to
another mine, which came to be known as the New City.
The Water Mages joined his side as well. They were looking for a
solution to destroy the barrier. For their magical
researches, they needed the ore of Lee's mine. Their goal was to
use it to find a way out.
The Fire Mages stayed with Gomez in the Old City. The installments
paid by the Empire guaranteed the survival of the
prisoners. Gomez enlisted the strongest of them as his personal
guard. Soon he ruled a small empire. Although all were
prisoners, while some were toiling in the mine, Gomez was asking
for more and more in exchange of the Ore, and soon
good wine, fine food and magical books abounded in his Castle.
After many moons, a man in the colony began to tell others about
his visions of freedom. He called himself Y'Berion, the
Illuminated. His words were deep and persuasive, and he attracted
many followers, with which he retreated in the Swamps
to found his own city. And soon there were rumors of strange powers,
magic and summonings that were even unknown to the
mages. And this city did florish. They lived from the culture of
Swampherb, which smell was coveted, for a smoke of herb
gave the men pleasant dreams. They traded the herb with the
Old City and soon they lived still rather meagerly, but
pleasantly.
The Empire recovered slowly from the wounds of the past.
Wheat grew in the fields and new trade routes were opened. Only
the Barrier reminded of a time of war.
And then came the orcs.
Like a storm rages over the land, they stroke the armies of the
king and killed every man who tried to resist them. So
Rothbar II readied his troops once more for war and every
available man was sent to the border.
In these times anyone who commited a crime, no matter small,
was sent to the Colony of Khorinis. The fire of the smithies
burned day and night and the hammers of the artisans were
constantly beating.

Another man will be judged guilty today and sent to the mine.
You are this man. Just another prisoner who will work for the
rest of his life in the barrier. So they think anyway...

i saw a mod back at wanderdog.com
for gothic2 and the addon.there was a
programme for desining new weapons
and armorsyou could choose the
damage/resistance of them or even
bonuses (talent, extra mana, and so on)
Furthermore there were new missions
and new beasts.

Just read the sticky topic about Gothic III facts. There have been several bits about GIII on the GothicDot/RPGDot news pages as well, including links to GIII concept art.

KaiRo: You are nosy anyway, whether you're allowed or not .

World of Gothic: How far into development are you? As we can take from your website, there won't be another addon, so you are putting all your efforts into Gothic III?


KaiRo: That's exactly what we are doing. There won't be another addon by us and works on Gothic III have drawn anyone's full attention.

World of Gothic: Does teh team still consist of the same people


KaiRo: Nothing has changed.

World of Gothic: Is the story done already or are you still looking for inspiration?


KaiRo: The story is not finished yet, but the frame plot is. Story and game design accompany each other, and we are progressing greatly regarding game design at the moment. Inspiration for certain plots will be ok at a later time, when we have to fill the frame plot with content. But that won't happen anytime soon.
Michael Rueve: What Kai wants to tell us is: We are first developing the setting (the world), then the story.

World of Gothic: A lot of people suggest dungeons, which are extremely hard, but not necessary for the main plot. Will there be such a thing?


KaiRo: That is not decided yet. At this time, we cannot tell such details regarding the content anyway, as anything can change and we don't want to make empty promises.

World of Gothic: Can you tell something about the planned size of the gaming world compared to Gothic II?


KaiRo: Larger. About thaaaat big.

World of Gothic: Are you thinking about mounts at all, or is the technical realization too complex and therefore unlikely?


KaiRo: Mounts are a complex topic, if included properly in a game. Time will tell, if it makes sense from both a technical and a gameplay point of view.

World of Gothic: Word from Michael Hoge is (correct me if I'm wrong), that in Gothic III, the hero doesn't have to start and learn everything from scratch. Can you vaguely tell us anything about that?


KaiRo: As you explicitely allow us to vagueley talk about that: We don't intend the player to have to enter the gaming world as an absolute beginner. But if you hope for a superhero from the beginning, think again. The player has a certain reputation and can defend himself properly, but to live up to his task, he still needs to develop his skills .

World of Gothic: Will you take over the skill system from the first two Gothic games or offer an all new charcater development to the player?


KaiRo: Only a very few things will remain the same. There will be changes in almost any aspect, including character development. However, we won't change the transparency and discrete use of numbers and stats.

World of Gothic: As for the engine: There's a lot of discussion on all fan forums. Far Cry's graphic engine seems to be everybody's darling so far. Can you enlighten us regarding this topic, as you haven't made a statement yet, which engine you will use for Gothic III.


KaiRo: Large parts of the engine will be developed by us, as the requirements to the technology are too special for a ready-made engine to fulfill them. So it is not important, which enginge will partly make it into our game, as you wouldn't recognize it anyway

World of Gothic: Will the engine you will use for Gothic III be licensed or will you just use parts of a purchased engine? How much is selfmade, how much premade?


KaiRo: There are licensed components, but the main part in developed by us.

World of Gothic: Did you know about the Gothic I revival that is happening these days? Because there are no comparable games, many gamers play Gothic I again. What about a small addon for Gothic I?


KaiRo: We are of course happy to learn that to shorten the waiting time for Gothic III gamers will play its predecessors again. I mean, there are a lot of other games on the market. However, in my opinion, it makes little sense to put more developing effort into a title, which is more than two years old, especially if we could progress development of Gothic III during that time. That's also the reason, whe rejected any offer to do a second addon of Gothic II, and the same arguments go for Gothic I especially.

World of Gothic: If you re-play Gothic II or I, you surely recognize the style and teh melodies of the music. Will that stay the same?


KaiRo: Thanks. Regarding music, which is my contribution to the games, some very promising thing are about to happen, which may lead to a further improvement. If I can make my vision of music reality, a lot of things will change and improve. Of course, I want to keep the recognition, and I will also recycle the original Gothic I theme .

World of Gothic: It would be somehow special and a nice thing, if you could add a music CD with the game's score. Did you think about that?


KaiRo: That will be decided, if it becomes clear, whether the music has the quality for a soundtrack CD. Also, the question is if such a CD will go with the original game already. I mean, producing a soundtrack CD is a lot of extra work, and as the music is among the last things that are finished during production, I can't do that as well.
Michael Rueve: That question has been discussed a lot of times and I went on Kai's nerves more than once. For the so called 'Special Edition' [note from the editor: of Gothic II, available in German only], there was a little soundtrack CD already. It was technically impossible to make more then, but as we are heading for an all new technology now...

World of Gothic: One question from most old-school RPGamers: Will there be a cloth map, as in old Ultima times...?


KaiRo: We have to arrange that with JoWood. Given the size of the gaming world such a cloth map would be a sheet however and thus too large for the box . Seriously: That's not decided yet.

World of Gothic: After the release of Gothic II, some people critizied the main story of the game, which followed the often used principle of a chosen one who stands between good and evil gods. This was not so enphasized in Gothic I, where a chosen one was merely mentioned, but that aspect was in the background. In Gothic II, you are confronted with this fact from the very beginning on, as only Innos' Chosen One can wear the amulet and it was clear, that this choosen one is the player. Two questions: Will Gothic III further develop this priciple or can we expect unexpected twists and turns in the plot? If no, will there be clarificaton about the motivation of the 'bad' side? For example, we didn't get, why the dragons wanted to destroy anything.


KaiRo: "Clarification about the motivation of the gods" - well said - is the core topic of Gothic III. What is the war of the gods about? What's the whole shit about anyway? Of course, mundane things are in the foreground, as the orc invasion. There will be twists in the plot. By the way, did noone ever come to think of Xardas eventually holding back information? (We do not want to use the word "lies' here...)

World of Gothic: To hard, to easy - feedback on the difficulty setting of Gothic II and the addon was manifold. Can you vaguely tell, if the player can eat a pizza when fighting monsters or if you need an extra pack of tissues to dry the tears of frustration?


Michael Rueve: We already started with ideas for an adjustable difficulty setting. Otherwise you can't please anyone (you can't do that anyway, abut you know, what I mean...)

World of Gothic: One of Gothic's main features is the extremely detailed and especially lively gaming world. It is fun, just to walk about idyllic meadows and watch a horde of wolves take on a scavenger. Will we still be able to enjoy this lively world in Gothic III? Will the world even be more detailed?


KaiRo: Finally a question that I can easily answer, and this with a clear 'yes'. The lively gaming world has always been, as you mentioned it, an important aspect, and nothing will change that.
Michael Rueve: The 'lively' gaming world is the main feature in Gothic in our opinion. Everything we are working on is heading towards this goal.

World of Gothic: In Gothic I and II there was no difference, apart from different stats, whether you hit your enemy with a sword, an axe ar even a staff. Could this change in the sequel? And also a question or suggestion: Couldn't you improve the guild specific weapon by many uses? So that the player is forced to use the specific weapon? It was difficult to play as a mage, with weapons being so much more powerful and effective.


KaiRo: Indeed we are planning something simlar, not exactly as you describe, as a 'guild' will move to another and less madantory meaning, but the merits of certain weapons will be highlighted in reasonable aspects.

World of Gothic: What do you think of the mods available at World of Gothic? 'Die Bedrohung' [nore from the editor: means The Threat] and Dicurric? Did you play them?


KaiRo: Whether we have played them? Hey, is it dark at night? We are enthusiastic about the Gothic mod scene, and we put a lot of effort in the development of the mod kits and will hear anyone who needs help with developing a mod. There will be no official 'support' of course, time is too limited for that. But we always will send out small tips and hints.
Michael Rueve: In a few days (as soon as our lawyer finishes the licensing agreement) we will release an all new mod kit for Gothic 2 - Die Nacht des Raben. [note from the editor: has been released already, but requires the addon]

World of Gothic: A sample from the new game? A phrase? A word? A picture?

First information to the Story
At the end of Gothic 2 the nameless hero segelt over a large sea. And lands in Gothic 3 . That covers the entire mainland of the Fantasy world and is about four to five times more largely than Gothic 2. Beside the well-known hill and jungle landscapes it will give also deserts. Latter region showed us Jowood to the E3 as early technique demo. Gently swung dunes, idyllische oases and much, much sand were to be seen in it. The eastern city particularly pleased us by detailed textures and successful architecture. Whether the player may ride with his journeys in the desert on horses or camels did not decide, the developers yet. Probably however the store of water of the hero will play an important role.
For the action of Gothic 3 Jowood keeps itself still very covered. As much we could out-get however: The hero will lose a part of his abilities and articles on his long ship journey to the mainland again. Gothic veterans are not to have to begin however as complete Newbie as in Gothic 2 . Still more than so far different (in particular human) parliamentary groups will play a role. The following sentences contain still or other interpretation on our part: After the Orkkriegen the human kingdom is weakened strongly, in the large cities of the country local war prince to power geputscht itself and to fight each other. In this anarchischen starting situation you must get along and become -- probably alternatively the king to save or another parliamentary group to the victory to help be allowed.
Apart from many new animations and moves -- so raubtiere are to be able to attack in completely different ways, about "over gang", by jumping first on rock and repelling themselves from there. Also the AI is to be improved in Gothic 3, so that opponents react also to remote attacks well. And the control anyway natively changed over to mouse...
Gothic 3 is to appear end of 2005.

well as we speak i got one theory but no idea if thats right. There are 2 actually 1) There is for sure an Orc Leader a great warrior that we maybe see in gothic 3 i hope that leads all those orcs into places to attack people etc , so my point is why orcs attack only humans is becose maybe someone from humans assassinated the previous leader of an orc or somekind of higher member of them . 2) Theory is offcorse that the Orcs are intelligent as u can see they can build theyr own huts all kind of items like drums and very heavy weapons that do alot of damage . My point is maybe they didnt want any humans to rule the world , they wanted to be themself the leaders. The pretty equal with humans , All what the humans in gothic series could do , could they do also

we can infer from G1 that orks are as intelligent as humans
on the other hand G2 does not interfiere with anything like
ork culture or Shamans speeking english.It does not even
have orks in the basic storyline but just treets them as plain
beasts (just like scravengers,meatbugs or giant rats).it
though gives all those characteristics, and the glory that goes
them to the DRAGONS!!!

Copied from another forum. No idea what was the original source. There were also many pictures too. Developers were playing in Gothic 2 engine and showed some things, like riding horses & stuff, yes, I've seen it, but it was all in G2 engine (and some other engines too) but none of that was official stuff so don't ask me where the guy got it, because I don't know. But it looks like G3 will be great. More than great. Completely new engine and stuff... A lot of changes. Yeah

All I have here is this:



As you can see, swords forged in Nordmar have special magic abilites. Swords that are forged there, are made entirely out of ore. In Gothic 2, smiths used the ore just as a add-on for the swords, what made swords only more durable, while not giving them any special abilites.
Too bad that only that proper smelting technique is known only in Nordmar but this means that we might come across some real ore swords in Gothic 3.

That's all from german fans with quite some programming knowledge. Check the German Jowood forum to see the originals.

I removed the list to make the thread more readable.

Sem already mentioned the problem: Most of this is speculation. Enthusiastic fans interpret a lot of things into 'facts' - as they think. A lot of weight is given to every single sentence said by a dev or every piece of text found in one of the games or the comic.
But who says that the devs have to remain consistent when they create G3, or that they have to choose their words carefully? Maybe the fans are speculating about things the devs have forgotten years ago?

Xardas is a complicated person. in G1 he seemed to be a friend and an ally, this could be though as in G1 Beliar was not our enemy, the sleeper was. in G1
you could even become a necromancer (follower of beliar) but in G2 your enemy was clearly Beliar.
Moreover, Xardas' true intentions in G1 were to take into possetion the sleeper' powers
so he'll use his powers probably against us (or else it would become too easy)
