how do I become a mage in Planescape torment? |
|
I've bought hte game for a dollar(yay amazon) and it's amazing so far, but apparently I miss something since I can only become a fighter, anybody can tell me how do I become a mage(if there's a trainer then where is it?)?
thanks in advance _________________ "We're still flying"

Yeah, in Planescape, you have to talk to specific NPCs to switch classes.
Head to Ragpicker's Square and talk to Mebbeth to learn magic.
There's also a thief that can teach you to become a rogue.
Once you have Annah and Dakkon in your party, they can switch your class whenever you want. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

By the way, I seriously recommend that you train charisma, intelligence and wisdom in the beginning really much. This way you get to choose certain dialogue options which are not available for "dumb" or dork characters. Strength, dexterity and constitution are not really that important and you'll have time to raise them on the long run. _________________ Lead musician of Ultima IX Redemption

I can't agree more with Michikawa. Int/Wis/Char are the backbone of this game. They will get you hidden abilities and so much more. Str/Dex don't really add much and Con isn't really that useful either.
I think I'm gonna have to play this game again now you've made me think about it _________________ "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds; and the pessimist fears this is true."

ok I'll try that, I frankly focused on int, because I wanted to be a mage, but now the game is giving me problems, I can't go back into the smoldering corpse bar, the game asks for disk 2, which is in the drive! and of course nobody will support this game anymore, it's sad but I guess I would have to stop _________________ "We're still flying"

No, don't stop! You don't have to! You just need to copy the files from the CDs onto your hard drive, then change where the game looks for the files.
Open the "torment.ini" file in main folder.
Replace the lines:
CD2:=D:\CD2\
CD3:=D:\CD3\
CD4:=D:\CD4\
etc... with the paths to where you copied the files. Boom! You should be up and running again in no time. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Aye, Wis/Int/Char are very important for this game. A high starting Wisdom, 18 or so will help you level up quicker as well.
If you want to play an all out mage then i suggest becoming one as quickly as possible. When i played, i had done most things in the hive before i found the mage trainer and consequently wasted alot of levels as a fighter and had a pretty gimped char by the end
Have you got the restoration patch installed as well? _________________ Dak’kon: "Your reasons for your incessant clicking are not *known* to me."

From here:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/planescape_torment_do_not_link_directly_to_this_file.txt
quote:
FULL INSTALL
One thing I learned from the excellent folks at The Baldur's Gate Chronicles
(http://www.bgchronicles.com/torment/) is how to do a custom full install of
Planescape: Torment. Provided you have the extra hard disk space (2+ GB), I'd
highly recommend doing this. Again according to the wonderful people at BGC,
this solves minor bugs and improves gameplay tremendously.
"Sounds great," you say, "but how do you do it?" Simply install as normal,
following the default instructions before throwing in a twist or two. Next,
find something else to occupy your mind while you copy the contents of disks 2,
3, and 4 onto your hard drive. Finally, edit the torment.ini file using the
invaluable Notepad application and edit the file paths for the appropriate CDs
(they are near the beginning of the file).
Normally, the default file paths will look something like this:
CD2:=E:\CD2\
CD3:=E:\CD3\
CD4:=E:\CD4\
Depending on where you placed the contents of the CDs, you should have something
like this (changes made are in lower case):
CD2:=c:\games\black isle\torment\cd2\
CD3:=c:\games\black isle\torment\cd3\
CD4:=c:\games\black isle\torment\cd4\
I think you can probably figure it out from here. Of course, if you don't
want to clog up all of your hard drive, you can just copy one or two of these
CDs instead of all three. If you do the complete full install, you'll only need
to leave CD 2 in your CD drive whenever you play. Also, this will drastically
improve gameplay speed as it will be loading data locally, unless of course
you're one of those lucky bastards with a 40+ speed CD-ROM. I have a pretty
decent 32X CD drive, but I noticed a marked improvement after doing the full
install. Thanks, Baldur's Gate Chronicles!

Wonderful! I'm happy to hear that.
Are you referring to Mourns-for-Trees? He is in the southeastern part of the Hive. He's next to the tree, sighing.

thanks guys I found him and did the rest of the quest and all, I think I'll restart the game so I could play as a mage all the way, instead of doing the major quest in the hive and then becoming a mage, and yes this game is amazing, I like how he can replace parts of his body _________________ "We're still flying"
