When I tried the Divine Divinity demo, it immediately reminded me of Diablo 2(on the very first time I move the character!). Is it some kind of clone of Diablo? The two games seem very similar!

A hybrid game like Gothic may be the next logical step for you. It's a perfect game to offer an accessible way to move from a pure hackfest like DS (which I loved too, BTW) to a more story driven format. From there you may feel more ready to try a deeper RPG. Trust me... if you go straight from DS to a hardcore rpg you will see nothing of the game you love in it. I did this by going from Gothic directly to Arcanum... not entirely successfully. I can't imagine going from DS to something like AoSaMO.
