Chosen or not, the hero beat down all enemies that stood before him. If he is, meh, good for him, more power for us. If he isn't, meh, he still is the most powerful hero around.
To support him being the chosen one though, only the chosen of Innos can be killed, only to raise again to repeat the battle one more time and come out victorious. I know my hero did that many times, especially in the beggining.

Is there anyone like myself who doesnt like the idea that im CHOSEN, That my path is laid in front of me, and that i really have no say in what is gonna happen because It was my destiny and i really do not have free will.

This is the same thing that gets me in real life, when people talk about destiny, Everyone has a destiny, So basically what your saying is nobody has free will, that you do what you were suppose to do because thats what god intended for you. My uncle died a year ago, And his whole life he lived in a 2 bedroom house and worked as a jantor, then he died. So your telling me that was his destiny?
What kinda cruel joke is that, Or those who die at birth from differant birth defects, was that there destiny? Or those who live in 3rd world countrys and die young or after a life of suffering, Was that there destiny?

I belive in god, and if destiny is true then are god is a sick basterd. That controls everything, does not give humans free will, but does what he wants with us.

I perfer to belive that Things happen because of circumstance, My uncle lived the way he did, because he made mistakes when he was young doing drugs and not getting and education, which lead to him being unable to find a decent job, While he was a jantor cleaning up peoples shit, thats was his life choices and alittle bit of other things he could not control.

And same thing for me applies back to the nameless hero, Perhaps this is more circumstance then, his path allready laid before him.

I just like to think people do great things, because thats what they had in themselfs, Not because there some puppet of a all powerful demented creator figure.

Sorry for the rant, But i was just wondering if anyone feels the same as i do. about destiny and the such

If we truly have a destiny than some higher power laid down the road and we, simple mortals, will never know why the road has so many curves.
But indeed in many cases it seems very unfair. Take the victims of the Tsunami, did they deserve that? What that their destiny?
That are questions we will most likely never be able to answer.

I also believe in God, but I think that he guides us. He show many roads and let us have the option to follow Him, a sideway or even go into the opposite direction. He doesn't control us, nor does he leave us completely alone. He shows what's best but leaves the final decision upto us.

As for the hero. I think it's very difficult to come up with a very good story and let the player make his won decisions at the same time.

If you think of what Xardas say in the end of G2, "I serve Beliar no more than you serve Innos", it might very well be possible to be the chosen of Innos without having your path liad before you already (although that's the games in all games with an end, but sometimes you have a very wide path ).

On the other topic, I believe in no higher power at all, and I think what happens here is the result of evolution, natural forces and how individuals act, and such.

ain't that the truth. If god decides, what we do next, then why do we get punished whenever we sin?? that's silly
He tells us to do something and when we do it, then we get punished afterwards or we may even end up in hell!!
destiny is bullshit

This is quite a debate we have here. Anyway hers my view, i cant remember this to well but doesnt Xardas say that the old orcish profecies say that there is a chosen one. I cant remember anything else but then again it came from xardas and it could be a lie. I hope Gothic 3 tells us the answer.
Could some one clear this up for me. When u hit somebodydo u deal the damge of the the weapon. And if it is a critical hit it is the weapon plus your strength. Just wondering.

Here have a lame fun fact.
When you are watching the first movie in Gothic 2 look closely and youll see that when the barrier is deforming, the background is the bitmap image from the install Splash Screen.

Another Lame Fact
In the german gothic 2 demo(you probably know this but anyway) even when the game tells you that you have finished the demo, you can still get a job, become a citizen and get into the upper quarter. Since there is no one up stairs practically you can explore the houses and find all the switches and hidden compartments.

Yet another lame Fact
The old mine actually never collapses. If u go there afterwards you can go in there and no one(I think) will attack you) I love Gothic but i mean really at least close the gate so we think its closed so that we cant get in after it collapses.

By the way i agree and disagree with Maylander. I find that Gorn only attacks me when i use a crossbow on a enemy other than that i dont know.

That's cool. I found that too when I played the demo. There is even a key on top of one of the fireplaces, I believe in Salandril's shop or the house next to it, but everything else is empty. No furniture, npc's etc.

Heh, It has been forever since i played the demo, but i remember the details like it was yesterday, I played the heck out of gothic 1 demo, For some reason, it took over week for the orginal gothic to be shipped to me.

I did not know about being able to go back to the mine after it collasped, Give me a reason to replay Gothic 1

This depends on when in chapter 4 you try to enter (it was chapter 4, wasn't it? It's been a while back for me). If you visit the Old Mine mine dreaight after the start of the chapter before you return to the Old Camp to hear the news of the disaster, the mine will remain open. If you go straight back to the OC, hear of the disaster there and head back to the Old Mine, it will be closed and you won't be able to enter unless you're using a cheat.

I cant remember if it was chapter 4 either but you are right. Now that you mention it i do remember the mine being closed later on in the game. Im sorry to slate PB. you see dont you do the freemine in that chapter. If so then only after you exit the mine does it probably set the mine closed. Im trying to remember any facts but to my and everyones disbelief, i havnt finished Gothic 2 yet. I bought it at least 6 months ago and i still havnt finished. I am disgusted with my self.
@ Cloaked Figure: the nice thing is that you are quite buff by then i think at least level 20 and so Ian and all the boys get quite a thrashing. And you must get hundreds of items including ore.

Agh heres another fact
This one is old but you can basically get pass any guards that are guarding say a gate. Draw your sword and then walk pass the guards and then sheath your sword. The gaurds will draw theirs but dont worry theyll to sheath theirs. This works for the Old Camp entrance and the old camp castle entrance, the bar at the new camp and to get to the mages, i cant remember if there were ppl stopping you in the swamp camp. You know this even works for the new mine entrance but its pointless because there is a gate and the winch does nothing. I learnt this on the gothicdot forums so who ever told me thanx. AS you probably gathered, this is for Gothic 1, havnt tried it in gothic 2. Probably wont work improved ai and stuff.

Another but old fact(since we are catalogging these facts)
In Gothic 1, if you are up on a high ledge and you want to get down quickly just jump off. But make sure you hold down one of the strafe keys until you land(thats saved me sooooo much time and trouble). Now this ONLY works for gothic 1. Try it in gothic 2 and see.

Please tell me how the damage works in gothic. as i asked before. Is it the following, if i hit a snapper say and i deal damage, i see that ive hit him like to 3 quarters. Now i know that aint a critical hit because the next hit will bring him down to a quarter. So my question is, is the first hit only the damage done by the sword or is it your strength and is is the critical hit the damage done by the sword and strength. Please will somebody tell me.
If i think of any more facts ill tell.

The strafe entry cheat(just use strafe to get past the guards, weapon not needed) works in both versions, as does drawing your weapon and running in.

The falling cheat does NOT work in G2....you become a wet spot on the ground.

Damage is a combination of strength(or dex, depending on the weapon), weapon damage and critical hit. SOOOOO a certain weapon will cause more damage with either more strength/dex....and/or better critical hit. All 3 things are in the damage formula.

A normal hit does 5-20 damage, no matter how many armor the enemy has. A critical hit does weapon damage + strength/dextrity - enemy's armor.

Two examples from NotR:
Strength: 70
Weapon skill: 40%
Weapon: Pirate's Saber, 65 damage with 60 strength required.

1.) Oh no, a Swamp Rat attacks you:
a Swamp Rat has 60 armor against sharp weapons.
- a normal hit will do 5-20 damage
- you'll have 40% to do a critical hit with 70(strength)+65(weapon damage)-60(enemy's armor)=75 damage

2.) Oh no, you encounter a Swamp Golem:
a Swamp Golem has 125 armor against sharp weapons
- a normal hit will do 5-20 damage
- you'll have a 40% to do a critical hit with 70(strength)+65(weapon damage)-125(enemy's armor)=10 damage

I didn't chose these examples for nothing. In G2 skill is more important than stength because you want that critical above all, while in NotR you'd rather want a high level of strength and less skill to be at least able to do the creatures some damage. And yes, you will encounter a Swamp Golem while having these stats.
