Application Error – An Assertion Failed

I’m finally getting decent at this game (NOTR) now this.

Application Error – An Assertion Failed

File: P:\dev\g2addon\rcleare\ZenGin\_dieter\zArchiver2.cpp (line 1429)

Assertion: readSize<READ_BUFFER_SIZE

Reason: 0

I did a save after killing an Orc and in the in the middle of the save I got this. Now every time I load my game this error comes up.

Can anyone help?

Welcome to our forum!

One of the programmers posted in a German thread on the same problem that the save game is with almost 100% certainty damaged.

Load another save game.

No other game saves

I tend to delete old game saves once I get thru a problem. Is there a fix to the Assertion Failer or can I enter the current save at a previous point?

Thanks

You can try to reinstall the game, but I don´t have much hope. There´s data missing in that save game.

I agree, once corrupted it's becomes irretrieveable.

In my experience with the gothic games, i found only the current active save becomes corrupted, so i save in tandem between two saves continually about every two minutes through the game, so there will be always a good save just a couple of minutes back and it will never be corrupted as it is inactive.

That's what I've started doing, i have a save and a back up. Every significant event gets backed up.

I didn't plan on playing the game a second time after I finished but it's nice know something about the game while you play. I have surpassed my previous level in 1/4 of the time.

Thanks
