Hey folks!
Okay, you want information, you get information.
First bug I encountered was message boxes disappeared suddenly. This happened in the beginning of the game, after a reload it never happend again.
Then performance is - strange. I have a high end machine and it's well configured, but there are freezes and low frame rates in certain areas (e.g. stone circle where you will find "Innos Eye"). That shouldn't happen with an GeForce 4 TI 4600 in a P4 2,4 GHz and 512 MB RD-RAM! Okay, it isn't so serious I'm not able to play, it's just annoying. Or does I except too much if my machine is three times better as the recommended and I want to play with every detail without any performance problems?
Then I get stuck in the old minearea. I fell between the old goods-lift and wasn't able to move anymore. So I had to reload an earlier savegame. Collisions test algorithm isn't the hit at every time. (
I'm in the 4th chapter now and haven't discovered everything of the game yet. Generally spoken, there aren't really serious bugs, expect the Radeon 7xxx problems concerning inventory. But these bugs I've experienced so far are irritating.
Other players in the German forums report of some more script bugs and other problems. A main problem is the new copy protection. It degreades installation sometimes to a lottery. I tried five times to install before I could play.
But - to be fair - if you finally get in the game, you forget everything around you and time is - how Albert Einstein said - RELATIVE!
Okay, enough words - I have to rejoin the world of Gothic 2!

I tried the german demo version last weekend. It crashed once (when I walked to the rusted axe near 2 goblins in the beginning, the game just went back to desktop). This was the only crash in a few hours of gameplay.
With tb1,4 and gf3 (old version) there was serious performance problems at 1024x768 resolution. At 800x600x32 resolution it runs smoothly. |

That's a very poor response.
The fact is, the English-speaking market is much, much larger than the German-speaking market, especially when you consider that way more Germans also speak English than Americans/Britons/Australians/Canadians speak German. English is the closest thing we have today to a global language.
It seems to me to be a poor business decision to delay the English version so long, especially since PB is on shaky financial ground.
And the fact that there isn't even an English demo several months after the full German release--not even subtitles-- is kind of a slap in the face. |

I've always wondered why some companies insist on still making games in their location's language.....the only company that comes to mind that could've done that but didn't was Funcom(sp?) which is based in Norway I think....I just find it to be pointless since English is the most widely used language and haven't found any arguements that have disproven this fact. So why do companies waste pointless money making the game in question in their own language? bah...anyway its late and this prolly doesn't go in this discussion folder/board/whatever. _________________ "What are you gonna do? Maybe it is taking while to make all the CD's, boxes and manuals? Perhaps somone is waiting to get paid and that is holding it up? Maybe they know that the English market is larger than the German market so they are letting the Germans be the final release candidate testers! That would be my best guess. Release the game to a smaller pool of players. Let them beat on it for a while giving you free testing. Then patch it and re-release it to the larger English speaking market. Yep, that's what I"m thinking. |

One reason for doing this is to test the game before releasing it to a wider audience. Ie, the german release could be either a commercial beta so as to spot any faults before releasing to english market. Alternatively it could be use to gauge initial market response to the product to determine pricing strategy for the english market etc. Its not as commercially dumb on second thought |

Of course itīs not that dumb.
I wonder why everybody here thinks the English market <i>for Gothic II</i> is bigger than the German market. It was number 1 in D, A, CH and still sells very well here. Of course all the other countries will add up to a serious amount of units, but not within a few weeks.

Perhaps they released the german version first because the developers are german? Not everything has to be about how much money it makes...if you enjoy doing something the first people you want to share it with are those who are closest to you! |

Unlikely. Reviews indicate minimal bugginess. And that still shouldn't stop them from releasing a demo. |

Whatever it is it's not doing the company any good.
Lack of demo, lack of explanation and lackof confirmation of release date is turning off many potential customers.
Especially given the other quality releases that are expected in first qtr 2003 |
