[b]AHEM!!!
ALL GAMES HAVE THOUSANDS OF BUGS!
PB beta-tested Gothic on two kinds of machines:
Windows '98
PIII 600mhz
192mb SDRAM
32mb SDRAM graphics card
Windows '98
PII 400mhz
128 SDRAM
16mb graphics card
No real specifics are given, but that's beside the point.
Games run differently on different machines. This is because the AI in games are semi-independant. The smarter the AI is, the more problems they run into.
PB didn't test Gothic on YOUR machine. So it's bound to run differently, than what they expected. |

Hey, buggiest game there is is Ultima IX !
Anyways, this game has been in stores in germany for quite some time, and they had it patched twice, still there are some bugs. Well, but as ppl said sometimes/for some ppl there are hardly any bugs throughout lots of the game. Maybe some of u just aren't lucky.
Have Fun. Awaken =-)

The WORST bug is probably the Old Mine Gate
when you close it, you can't re-open it and
you get stuck in the story.....(whatever you
use the winch or not)....i'm stuck with it on
all my saves so i'm gonna quit the game since
i'm on episode 2 and it's long gameplay)...
and the funny thing is you can enter the mine
(even the gate is closed) if you use the ore
nuggets on the right inside wall (you need a pickaxe)
but .......hehehe......you get stuck inside
hey German Dudes.....FIX THAT FU#$@#$ BUG so
we can continue our story!!!!!!! |

ALL GAMES HAVE THOUSANDS OF BUGS!
Thats absolute bullshit fetishfool! You obviously dont play many pc games or system is just fucked to shit. I have 41 pc games in total ranging from dos to winxp and 90% of them run perfectly without s single bug. That statement you made is such bullshit. By the way, my cousin has a totally seperate system from mine and I installed Gothic on his computer. He has hundreds of bugs as well. These bugs don't cause the game to crash but do mess up story line and fun factor of the game. All I wanted to know is if these bugs can be fixed by Piranha? Is there any word that they are working on a patch? Obviously the other two patches didn't do much. |

A good bug is still a bug!!
I never said that bugs are bad. The fact that I can fall without taking damage in Gothic is a good thing.
All games have thousands of bugs. Whether you can see or feel them or not, they're still screwing up something.
If you have programming experience, then you'd know that the more independance you give to a game, the more problems it will run into. |

k, just a bit of an update...
it seems that once u leave the camp of whatever camp had a bug, and let's say u go to another camp and then come back, the bug which is connected to graphical glitches resets and is no longer there
so if someone is stuck in a tree and u need to talk to him, go from the camp and come back after putting some distance between u and the camp

Anonymous, my experience confirms your observation.
MC_Renzy: I am afraid, that it would be very difficult for PB to fix bugs related to NPC. The reason for that is that PB designed them to be autonomous and not-hardcoded, plus they have a concept of memory too, there are so many states in the game and so many entities, and AI has to react in proper way (just recall amusing NPC behaviour when one of the PB used a cheat at one of game demos) to combinations of mentioned and not-mentioned factors. It is extremely difficult to model and program such a system 100% correct, and as difficult to make changes as they can break alot too along with fixing.
To put it short there can be strange things happening, depending on the state of your particular game (and considering the freedom of Gothic each of us has it's particular game state). To fix such bugs is probably very difficult. The other matter any technical and graphical bugs (if any), which can and should be fixed by PB.

P.S. The above is just my guess and opinion, for I have no knowledge of Gothic design & implementation. |

Well I ran into a few bugs that I can not stand in a game…any game. Last night I had one GPF and two Access Violations. I am firing off the error.txt files to PB tonight when I get home. I can tolerate small glitches in a program but crashes really piss me off!!

Hey, Ragnar.
Are you trying to enter cheats? Or does Gothic crash just out of the blue? |

I don't use the cheats. The hard drive started to go nuts (page file I would guess) and BLAM!

Gothic has a maximum for everything.
When the game engine reaches a maximum performance, then it will just crash to desktop.
If you try to do something that the game doesn't want you to, like use cheats, Gothic will crash to desktop.
If you overload your computer, Gothic seems to crash to that, too. |

Well I ran into another one last night. Tried to trade with the Smithy at the NC and went into some kind of God mode and the Esc key stopped working.

I get access violations and lockups occasionally, along with gpfs. However, I'm running windows xp, so that might be the main problem (my brother has win2k, and it's only crashed back to the desktop a couple of times for him). So, anonymous, what operating system do you run? |

There is definitely a bug associated with sleeping and that little shit MUD! Every time I try to go to sleep and mud walks in the game screws up. The sc key stops working and you cease to exist in the Gothic as for as any of the characters are concerned. If Mud interrupts my sleep one more time I’m going to disembowel the little shit.
