…but after I issue the command “Attack” do I have also saying who to attack?

Remember in IE games we had the ability to click on summon/dominated character and tell them exactly which enemy to attack (the operative word here is exacly). So I assumed that in PnP the summoner also has this ability. If a wizard summons a Balor and tells him to attack, will he wipe out friends and foes alike?

BTW what is a definition of “control somebody” in PnP?

You can order a summoned creature to attack a specific foe and they will do so. Control someone in pen and paper means you control their actions via some sort of command and they have no way of resisting or misinterpretting... they are basically your puppet.

Ok people I presume that you already saw the new screenshots on gamespy, if not what the hell you waiting for?

The journal looks VERY promising, you can also tell there going to be some cool cinematic, man I really can’t wait for this game.

I'm more interested in seeing how they put a story in a module without story, and roleplaying in a module without roleplaying.

Yes, that will be interesting. I played Temple many. many years ago when I was a teenager and thankfully I've forgotten nearly everything but I do recall it was a brutal combat-centric mod.

Still, Tim Cain seems to have his head screwed on and I think they'll do a good job but this is certainly one of his big challenges - finding a path between modern story/RP demands and faithfulness to the source material.

Everything I've heard about ToEE so far tells me that it's going to be the truest d&d RPG seen so far. I'm actually amazed that the developers are planning to hold so close to pen and paper play for this one. I think it's great. Is the game going to allow for online play like the NWN DM mode? Because that would be huge.

No. Single player only. I think Troika prefers single player because it's easier to do a great job without the silliness and bugs that occur with multi-player modes.

I better see Troika focus on Single-player portion of TOEE instead of something more ambitious. NWN not only has single-player, but also mod tool and the multiplayer. Those things take a lot of resources, even for a big company like Bioware.

Remember Arcanum?, Tim Cain admitted that some aspects gone wrong because the project became too ambitious.

I agree on general principle that they should focus on making it a strong single-player game, but part of me wants to still see some form of multiplayer mode incorporated. It would just be really interesting in a party based game if you could create a party with players online...but i imagine that's a pretty tall order...maybe for T0EE2? Since I've been tracking the journals on IGN I'm still pretty excited about the control they're giving players in this one.

The journals look GREAT..I really like it when IGN does that with the developers!!! To the whole MM or single player game, I am glad that Troika is converging all its resources into the single player aspect...I have my MMO's and I want my single player games too...to be honest, I havn't ever gone to a server on NWN and really really enjoy it anyway...so anyways...I look forward for ToEE as it is...I don't need another MMO from whats already being developed...I wouldn't know what to play!

Online play ruins immersion anyways. People always go out of character or off-topic... it's in our nature: When provided a way to communicate, communication occurs. I like a solidly built single player game where you can get into the story and imagine you're there for a little while. I also like the glorified chat rooms with lots of creatures dying that is MMORPG-land as well... but for entirely different reasons.

Good single player = I excel, and nobody knows but me. I enjoy for what it is.

Good multi-player = I rock, and people can SEE my skills. Plus, any time you have multiple people, monsters that swarm, and a new player with a low level weapon and an itchy trigger finger hilarity must ensue.

SIngle player when I want a diversion I can turn off at a whim. Multi when I feel like showing off and feel a need to put aside some time to play.

I just started playing in the world of MMORPG and I think you've basically summed up my own experience with it pretty well. It's sort of like a weird dinner party where you can kill things while you make small talk. That by itself is pretty cool but I still like the total fantasy that is the single player experience more. I'm a newbie to EQ and DAoC right now, but I was just curious if either of those or any of the other MMORPGs i've been reading about on these boards offer more detailed quests and storylines to play at higher levels? I guess I should direct this to the MMORPG forum really.

Definitely ask in the MMORPG forum... Ekim's practically played 'em all! I'm the D&D guy... I handle writing revies for all the D&D games, which happens once every six months or a year or whatever. Ekim reviews MMORPGS, which keeeps him hopping as it seems the 'next greatest thing!' is always being released.

Thanks! I'll definitely pitch it to the other forum.

By this time everyone saw the character generation screens, to put it mildly I’m overwhelm. I see many hours spend just to figure out what I want. But what scares me the most is my lack of knowledge of variety of options. For example I just read somewhere about this upgrading weapons keen edge or something, how the hell I will know how to do that?!

BTW in the recent interview Tim said that every creature is killable balor or even some semi god, well I wonder if I ever kill that deity?
