Unfortunately, this articles listing doesn't include the interview I have (badly) translated long time ago It was on the old design, at that time when Garrett had black hair and Rendelius still had teeth.

Other than that, Arx, well yeah it seems excellent but in 3D which means I won't be able to run it properly unless I buy another computer. Even Arcanum which is in 2D is very slow on my PC (especially scrolling).

What PC do you have? The Arcanum demo runs a lot slower then the actual game, because of the missing art. I remember Tim Cain saying that he had the same problems with the Fallout demo.

It seems to me that an editor at RPGDot needs a good computer to actually play the games they review! Maybe some of the revenue from selling games could be put towards buying him a new computer!

*g* - guess how many games we have sold in our store so far . Less than I have noses in my face. The store is a service, and I think it hasn't been widely accepted so far.

More on this and other topics in a new thread I'll open on the RPGDot forum...

Hello, just a quick message to say hi and thanks for setting up a message board dedicated to ARX Fatalis. It is always an honour for me and the team to see that people show some interest in the game. We'll read your messages as often as we can and we'll try to answer your questions too when we have time (which is not something we have that much

Hi Raf, Welcome!

I'm curious about your graphic engine for ARX!
You guys have made your own engine from scratch (as far as I'm informed). Besides giving you developers a lot of hair on the chest, I'm sure you can better adjust it to your specific needs. But it must also have been a very time consuming project. And I just want to know if there are any regrets making this engine yourself, or if you would consider buying a license for a engine next time a new one is needed!

Hi,
I don't live in spain sorry but I understand spanish a little bit.
Regarding the engine: it is our own engine, and yes,it is time consuming to develop it for sure. It is also a lot of stress and long hours debugging and implementing features... But, the effort is REALLY worth it because we can get what we want with it instead of 'bending' the game design to get it to fit with the usual licensable engines.
It's also a good way to have a game with a different look, I think it's cool to have a game that everybody can recognize at the first look. I'm a bit nostalgic of the times when every game had its own engine
The engine isn't totally finished yet, because it needs some optimisations and some fast loading game format, but it's really almost all there and we're very satisfied with the result so, we don't regret anything !!!!
To be honest, when we started, if we knew it was that hard to do, we wouldn't have done it. Being 'naive' and not listening to other developer's advices helped us a lot in that regard...

Thus one can say: out of naivety come the best results .

Raf, when one looks at the Arx Fatalis homepage, you present some maps for the game (of course so small that one can't decypher them *g*). How many "levels" will there be in the game? And will you have to go up and down a couple of times (for example for trading/selling/buying items). If so, can we expect a "twon portal" spell in the game?

And will you have to go up and down a couple of times (for example for trading/selling/buying items)

If so, can we expect a "town portal" spell in the game?

There are about 20 different areas to load and to travel to. There will be some travel back and forth needed, and there will be some kind of teleporting system to go directly to the important areas.
