you misunderstood. Mages cannot disarm traps, not with Knock Knock spell anyway. Just like how a Divine trap doesnt disarm a trap, it just helps the rogue who is disarming it with his success rate.
When talkin to NPCs, are you supposed to ask them, like, anything thats on your mind, or the hot keywords that are green or repeat the keywords in their last sentence to you back at them to unlock more or what?
That was one of the few drawbacks with this game, the NPCs in the world feel like they are there cause they're supposed to be as per some designers grand idea. They swivel to talk to you like robots, no character, just kinda there to sell you stuff and buy all your excess stuff |

With my Bishops, I can cast either Divine Trap or Knock-Knock on a trapped chest. As I said earlier, I have not tried it myself yet. I may try it this weekend to see if it will work or not.
Mainly ask them things from your keyword list. Also ask them things from their responses to your questions. This will often add another keyword to your list. For example, I believe when you first meet Antone, he says that he can make custom items when he introduces himself. Custom items never show up in your keyword list, but you can double-click on "custom" from his dialogue and he will tell you about the custom items he can make and they custom item names are added to your keyword list. Also when you mindread an NPC, ask them about things that you got from the mindread. |
