Helherron: Anyone played this? |
|
I downloaded the demo a couple days ago and must admit that I'm enjoying myself immensely. Helherron is VERY similar to Nahlakh and Natuk by Tom Proudfoot. Tom got his ideas from the old SSI game Wizard's Crown. It consists of a party of eight raiding dungeons and fighting massive turn-based battles with hordes of enemies. The plot is almost non-existent but there are a lot of spells and a great amount of character tweaking. Fun stuff! _________________ 'nut |

No but I might check it out. I haven't played any of Proudfoot's games for a while but if it's similar, it's worth a look.

Thanks Dhruin! I don't know why I forgot to post a link to the site. I will say that I've tried to register the game and haven't heard from the publisher. I paid my money but he hasn't replied with the serial code necessary to continue in the game world. It is the holidays though and he may be on vacation or something. I haven't given up hope yet. I'll let you know if I have any luck with the registration. _________________ 'nut |

I forgot to follow-up on this. The guy was on vacation in Thailand and I got my code around New Years. I didn't finish Helherron but I definitely got my $12 worth out of it! _________________ 'nut |

I like the Demo as well. The turned based team combat is right up my alley. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

I got bored with it once I reached the capital, but it's a game that you set down for a few weeks or a month and pick right back up. The game is almost completely about combat so you don't really have to remember the plot. I really enjoyed the first part and will eventually finish the whole game. _________________ 'nut |

I really like this game, too. Somehow, it is VERY immersive.
They just put up a new version for the first time in 2 years but apparently it is bugged. After I boot the game once and close out, I cannot enter it again without a total system reboot.
Other are having similar problems.
Hopefully, it'll be fixed shortly.

No, it runs smooth on my machine.
And it's very immersive turn based CRPG. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

Well, I solved the problem on my own. In addition to not being able to run HH properly, I noticed slower boot-ups of my systems and slower internet speeds. I also hear my HD being active quite a bit when nothing much was occurring.
The last time this happened it was due to a Trojan.
I downloaded the latest definitions for Spy Bot and ran it.
Viola! It did not like a game I'd put on my HD last week: Fate, by Wild Tangent. I did a search and it seems many regard this piece of crap as spyware, at best and a Trojan, at worst.
I let Spy Bot remove the junk, uninstalled the program and rebooted.
All my aforementioned symptoms were gone and HH boots with no problem as often as I like!
Best Regards
