Beyond Divinity: Release Date Postponed |
|
The release date of Beyond Divinity has been pushed back a bit in order to address some of the issues that popped up after the demo.<BR>

<P align=justify><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica" size=2><B>March 29th, 2004:</B> The street date for the English version of Beyond Divinity’s has been postponed to late April 2004.
<P align=justify>The main reason for the delay is Larian’s commitment to give the fans the RPG they want. With the release of the Beyond Divinity demo last month, the studio obtained a lot of a valuable feedback from the RPG community.
<P align=justify>While the overall comments were very positive, there were a few issues that troubled players. With the support of North American publisher Hip Games and UK publisher Digital Jesters, the developer is in the process of addressing these issues:
<P align=justify>By employing the services of high quality improvisation actors in Toronto, any doubts that fans might have had about the voice recordings in Beyond Divinity should soon be history.
<P align=justify>Likewise, by introducing multiple game modes allowing players to play Beyond Divinity as either an action RPG or a tactical RPG, fears that the game might be too hard for some existing Divinity fans should now be quelled.
<P align=justify>The extra available time will also be used to do further polishing of the game, integrating further feedback from the forums at <A href="http://www.larian.com/">www.larian.com</A>.
<P align=justify>'We are very sensitive about what our community thinks about our games, and when we saw they were all but pleased by the voice recordings, the decision to go back to the recording studio was easily made.' says Swen ‘Lar’ Vincke, project leader at Larian Studios. 'With the support of Hip Games, whom I really want to thank, and a crew of sound engineers and actors who were willing to burn the midnight oil on this, we’ll manage to set straight something that could’ve gone very wrong. Voice recording all the dialogues in a RPG as extensive as Beyond Divinity was a very ambitious task, and we didn’t get it right the first time. I’m happy we’ve been given the opportunity to rectify that.'
<P align=justify>On the subject of the different game modes, Vincke said 'One of the design goals of Beyond Divinity was to introduce more tactical combat to the mix. We thought everybody was going to prefer this over the typical hack & slash gameplay you found in the original game. To our surprise it turned out that a part of the community didn’t want that at all. So we introduced different combat modes. The game now offers you the choice between action, tactical or hardcore combat, each leading to very different gameplay experiences. I think this is exactly what our audience was looking for.' </FONT><BR></P></i></BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></CENTER> |

Maybe the German voices didn't need redoing? It's the right decision. I knew something was afoot when my pre-order was delayed. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

Well I think this is great.
It does not make sense to spend that much time and money making something, and having hours of recorded bad acting.
I think it will make a big difference.
PS garret... the german version doesnt have any voice acting at all so there is not much to change. This game is coming out in so many languages I cant follow it... but perhaps english is the only one where there is voice recording?
Was the German Divine Divinity with voices? |

I hope they'll also fiddle with the interface a bit, I found it rather heavy and non user friendly (the ESC key not closing menu for instance !!!)

At least you're able to play "Night of the Raven"
Seriously though, it does seem that there is a "price" to having the german version released a long time before the rest of the world and I've experienced my share of early release related bugs, so I don't envy you german speaking lot such much as I used to ... except when I think about the word "Raven" ... at night ... *sob* _________________ Signature? ... erm ... nope, can't think of one. |

I should place a call into a bookie and bet the farm on the Saints for the Superbowl. Hell might have official frozen-over with a game developer actually doing the right thing. What is next? Mythic Entertainment admits they screw up repeatedly and have ruined DAOC? EA will visit their proctologist for a much needed cranial retrieval procedure after whacking Origin?
It will be chaos, rivers boiling, raining frogs, all that stuff.
Props to Larian for being a maverick and doing the right thing. Pretty sorry stuff that right thing = maverick in this industry. |

Im glad that they are giving more combat options. Im hope the give a turn based combat option sence you have to keep both characters alive. The executioner guy was way to powerful. I couldn't get past him no matter what I tryed, as he would heal back to full health faster then you could build up your magic, |

I think Larian deserves a big round of applause for confronting their superiors and getting the extra time to finish this...on the other hand, what are they talking about with the combat? I didn't notice anything 'hard' about the combat in the demo...anyone have any idea how these different 'modes' will work, or how they'll be implemented? |

As a vociferous critic of the voice acting, I'm thrilled they have decided to fix it. This will turn a good game into a great game, IMO. Well done Larians. _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!
