Does Gothic really have game stopping bugs per the walkthru?

In the walkthru to this game the author indicates a number of things *not* to do or you will possibly screw things up and never be able to finish the game. 1)If Lester gets mixed up somehow on his trip back from guiding you around the sect camp. 2)Don't let any of the 3 guys standing around at the bottom of the old mine get killed by the huge insects (forgot their names). 3) Don't EVER touch a winch, etc.....
Is this all true? It seems that I need to keep consulting the walkthru (something I'd rather not do) just to make sure that I don't completely mess things up for later on. If this is true, couldn't they patch it? Or is the walkthru possibly referring to an earlier version that has already been patched to fix show-stopping bugs? Anyway, I'm really enjoying this but I'm getting a little paranoid. Thanks.

From what i've heard, those bugs are not always hapenning, i never had any of those bugs except ones lester but i had a save game not too much earlier.
So the thing to do is just make a lot of saves in some different slots every maximum time of 20 mins and before using a winch or something like that.

I never had any problems with those things (I used the hints from the walktrough) but I advice you: don't try if you can have those bugs, I heard they can be real irritating.

They´re not game stopping but fixing them requires serious cheating.
