@ Uocjat: how do you get that idea?
You are right about the fact that wulf can even be more complicated than the books

but I bet that with his few last posts, he gave a lot of info away

Yeah, something useful at last . I still don't know one thing: if Wulf knows that much, why doesn't he have the Alienware?

No Uocjat, i did not say that?

What i mean is, that this old man is hidden in the game, but the answer can be worked out from info's in the books, the power of the gods and all that.
I did not know this at one time, but now it is more clear, the books are there for all to see and maybe work out what they mean. I am struggling myself, i am only passing on some bits of what i can remember, and bits i am becoming to realise. That letter mentioned by megadav was a good clue, there is still more searching to do, but i believe we are getting closer, so anyone reading this thread can maybe get some of their own ideas. If i find more good info' i will pass it on, anyone can offer info's if they want.

Just to make some things clearer: do we have to do something with the Piece of the Ice Golem?

@Wulf or anybody for that matter
I've read it stated that both Wulf and Wolverine_men were guards when they found chromanin. I can't seem to find where Wolverine_men stated that though. I realize Wulf was because he mentioned it, did I simply miss the part in this post where WM said he was a guard at the time?
thanks, rordog

A good point Rordog,

Its kind of hard to follow, wolverine_men says, there is no need to join the merc's or the sect, so he's sort-of in the old camp, that doesn't mean he joined?
Same for me, if i was banished from the old camp, i would be guildless till i joined another camp, but could have been say a shadow or guard or none, or a mage, i have mentioned this somewhere in the thread "how far can you go before joining any guild" - this is crucial to the old man bit,
Yes, i did say a mage! - - it's all in the books (and the letter)?

This Chromanin thing is hard to say the least. I just pumped a couple solid days into this thing with no luck whatsoever. I realize that is miniscule when compared to some of the astonishing efforts that others have put forth.
Here is my 2 cents worth and hopefully they have more value to you than a couple pennies.
1. Book 1 can have a literal translation of deliberately casting off all moral corruption and engaging ones self to result without sin or guilt. (have you felt bad about any of the deeds you have partaken in?)
What are the chains of this world? one obvious conclusion would be the force field that everyone is living under which makes some sense because you would use the power that is recieved to break the chains. As to the actual source of the power? that is the quest is it not?
2. Book 2 is a bit confusing what are Chromanin's visions that have been carried from the tides of time? They are obviously important because no temptation could every lead you astray once you have seen them. I have a theory, but I will not share it because it is pretty far fetched.
3. Book 3 this could have several meanings in my opinion. What part of the game talks about recieving a great legacy? The ore armor was once worn by someone incredibly more important than you or me so that could be it. Or Urizeal the sword is a pretty great legacy charged or not, if you ask me. there could be others though like the legacy of the focus stones.
4. Book 4 line one I do not understand, but what in the game is WASTING and WAILING when you have that encounter. I have a good idea what this one is refering to and you might aswell with some thought. What about absolute perfection? Perfection is faultless, but what is absolute aside from a type of vodka? absolute has several interesting definitions. Such as perfect in quality or nature, complete. Or how about not mixed?

5. Book 5 "But I shall not walk this path alone. This honor is mine" Woe is me what the hell does this mean. Times like this I wish I had all of the english backround that my girlfriend does instead of business classes. I asked her to play the game though because she is really good at interpretation, but she doesn't play video games that aren't neopets(ha ha).

Additional Info:
WM's clues are very insightful, but have the opportunity for copious amounts of interpretation. Was "happy hunting" a clue? If so there is one major hunt that the nameless one partakes in during his travels. As to the banished one knowing more than he divulges anyone who has played G2 knows that Lard-Ass (Xardas) or Ur-Shak if it is him has a great deal of secrets that the nameless one is clueless about. the only problem that I am having aside from not being able to solve this is that I feel alot of the poetic references in the books indicate late game events, but that contradict Wulf's pesonal experience that happened when he was still a guard. All well it is just a theory and everyone should formulate their own and try it out. Also I think that avoiding quest that are dishonourable is not neccessarily the answer, but rather weighing the merit of each quest and then completing the ones that fit within what could be righteous.

Well that hopefully wasn't a waste of a couple minutes of your time that you will never get back. I'm off again, starting from scratch with a new theory to play out. Good luck everyone. I truly hope that Wolverine_Men gives additional clues after the due date so that others may eventually solve the mystery.
later, rordog

After spending an hour or so reading this, I'd guess that the way to go would just to force the developers to tell us whether or not they put it in.

For the most part though, I'm pretty sure something like this must've happened or else there wouldn't be 20 or so pages about it.

@Wulf,
There're 4 elements, fire, water, stone and air. About the chains of the world, a book, maybe "True Power" says that the perfect mage is beyond nature and cannot die. And Wulf, please at least PM me some facts you found or found out, I won't take that PC from you and you said I helped with some posts .

@Rordog,
Very good input, we could have done with this kind of response some time back, but there were very few believers then.

@wolverine_men,
My apologies for asking to reveal your i.d. - "maybe one day you may tell us of your links with the game" would have been more polite.

@megadav,
I will try and put some ideas together, maybe they will help but don't take them as gospel !!!

1. The letter, this was for Xardas, but he does not get to see it, YOU do because you open it, so Xardas does not know that you now know of searching for the info of the gods etc' - or put it another way, YOU are now one up on Xardas!.

2. I'm not sure but it would appear that Xardas is "using" pc-hero, and (controversely) wrongly, (slightly twisted) telling pc-hero what he must do (but should he!!!) how can you "not do what he tells you" needs for some deep thought. >>>> ?

3. On opening one of the cromanin books, there is clue for dummies on the right-hand page, the left-hand page is the real hard cryptic riddle, but as you aquire non-cromanin books progressing through the game it should be obvious (but not too immediate) that they can be linked (helpful) to those pages.

4. The elements, "at the centre lies the morgrad" - earth, water, fire and air. - this is interesting, how to relate the elements into (or beyond?) reality, even with four there seems to be some missing element? - down in the orc temple there is constant reference to only three.

5. How do you achieve the ultimate power? - "in the beginning was the power pure and white, but now only the echo's of the vow sound in the night" - yes there is another power.

6. "Wasting and wailing"- this refers to "being a ghost"

7. "Break the chains of this world" - this is death, but not quite, with "the power" a ghost is able to "die" which can then revert to reallity, back to life, not undead like a zombie but of the spirit, there is a close link between the old man and the skeleton of the fog tower, - how do you "release" one to "enable" the other, the old man is "set to this world" and the sk/m/o/t/f/tower is still in this world.

8. "The times of tide" is the beginning, and the world is constantly moving! (waxing and waning)

9. In reallity a "righteous" person is a kind of church-goer, reads and studies the bible/scriptures.
In the game you must constanly read the books, ? an aggressive hack and slash player would not do this each night before going to sleep.

10. Another blast from the past, i distinctly remember a secret door which appeared in the central hexagonal tower which is across the large forecourt of the old cliff-top monastery, - one day many questions will be answered.

am i the only one getting a headache from this ?

it seems to me that all these "cules" we can read here are way too cryptic
being a ghost ? too my knowlage there aint no ghosts in the game .. even though i once heard rumors of mud's ghost .. just a rumor ?

seems to that in most other cases programmers hide clues in the game if they have hidden something .. why even make a hidden place if noone will ever find it ?
but i must say they've out done them selfs and everyone else whit gothic .. for one .. it took me maybe 2 years or something before i even noticed the small cave just out front of the old camps main gate ( the one under the small hill in the lake next to the brigde and the place whit 2 young scavs )

but still its seems that you have to studie the books for years to find any understandable clue in them .. and yet some people stumpled across this hidden place whitout even knowing it was supose to be there

so maybe we are confuseing our self by looking too deep when the answer could lie at the very surface

i'm going to test an idea or two i've come up whit .. i'll let you know how it turns out ..
