Gothic newbie questions

I have not played the first Gothic, so will the second game have a backround story to tell us a little bit about the first game. What are the system requirements for the game? Is this game anything like Morrowind?
Thanks ahead of time.

Not really like Morrowind.
It has a third person view.
The sourroundings are great, mountains in the distance you can just walk to and up.
System requirements are lower then Morrowind.

@Xerox
Sorry if I confused you, I meant the system requirements for the second Gothic.

Gorath expected the system requirements of Gothic 2 to be 10% higher then Gothic 1.
If you are able to play morrowind fine, then you can play Gothic 2 fine.

Gothic1:
Creatures only respawn at sertain points in the game.
You can only get so many levels.
You must choose your player: Fighter, mage and stick with it. You can't be both in one.
NPC's are more lifely, the talk to eachother, day and night routine.

no, you can be a mage/fighter, mage/ranger fighter/ranger, only if you have enough skill points. heck, if you have enought skill points you can be a fighter/ranger/mage.

Thanks ahead of time.

The story will be explained. As usual you start as a weakling, so Gothic (1) isnīt needed.

Gothic is -together with U9- the RPG thatīs technically most similar to Morrowind, but gameplay and atmosphere seem to be very different.
Donīt judge the graphics by the screenshots. In motion they look way better.

The hardware requirements shouldnīt be that high. Gothic needed a P3-1000, 256MB and a real GeForce2 for fluent play @1024 with max. details and viewing distance. Part 2 uses the same engine, tweaked and with improved graphics. PB said they want to make everything you can imagine configureable in the .ini.
Of course we have to wait and see which compromise between performance and beauty Piranha Bytes chooses.

A short characterisation of Gothic:
+ best AI of all realtime RPGs
+ technically very good at release date (still pretty good now)
+ brilliant landscape design
+ lively world with an incredible attention to details
+ most realistic NPCs in the genre: digitized speech for all dialogs, daily routine, (limited) message system, believable characterisation. Gothic has at least a dozen NPCs to identify with, positively or negatively.
+ a lot of freedom for a linear game
+ a good story
+ realism wherever possible without disturbing the flow of the game
+ stats are minimized. All numbers except the absolute minimum have been removed. ==>
+ less stats ==> less restrictions
+ realistic and surprisingly flexible combat system
+ good cheat mode
+ transformation spells rule!
+ some genre rules were broken. This made the game more unpredictable.

- the controls are not mainstream enough
- trading interface sucks
- the game was too easy in the end
- the ending was disappointing
- the limited character development options gave the player too much (!) freedom. You could become an almost invincible warriormage.
- still not bugfree
- Gothic could have used some more polishing
(- some people thought the world was too small)
- some loose ends
- balancing could have been better
- f/x and FMVs could have been more spectacular

If you compare this list with our Gothic 2 facts page youīll see that:
(a) most -maybe even all- weaknesses will be eliminated and
(b) most strong features will be even better, the others will at least remain on the same level

I think there's grammatical errors in your sentence; here's the correct one:

"..yes its like morrowind, which is better than Gothic many many many times"
