fish....

has anyone found an effective way to deal with these buggers? i read somewhere that beating them in unarmed combat worked but my thief just doesn't have a lot of skill in that. last night i thought to go back to the first town (i'm still just between that and pelegaria or however it is spelled) to get a fishing pole to see if i could equip it like a weapon and that would solve my problems. but it didn't work. ah well. thanks for any advice.

I use spear, but I think any melee weapons will do.

thanks guys... i guess one of the problems i had been having was that my silver short sword was in bad need of reparinging so i had been hunting about with a bow. but now that i've got it back...
