First, Lost Odyssey. As mentioned in our first look at the title, Lost Odyssey tells the story of a man who lives for 1000 years at a time when the world is going through a mystical (magic-based) industrial revolution. What we didn't know at the game's unveiling is that joining Kaim, the main character, is Seth, a woman who also lives for a thousand years. Seth is the blue-haired girl shown walking around on a green field in the trailer (that sequence is, according to Sakaguchi, a good indication of what Lost Odyssey will look like). Sadly, Sakaguchi does not reveal details on the relationship between Seth and Kaim.

We now have a few hints at something resembling a gameplay system for Lost Odyssey. Kaim, who's apparently of royal lineage and is physically weak, can suck skills and power from the more mortal folk who surround him. Doing this will result in some cool effects that Sakaguchi is not ready to reveal just yet. Whatever emerges from your vampire session will be customizable by the player.

More than gameplay, IGN is interested in Lost Odyssey for the promise of an immersive storyline. As revealed at the game's premier, Sakaguchi is working with Japanese author Kiyoshi Shigematsu. Sakaguchi reveals in this latest interview that Shigematsu has been asked to write a thousand year's worth of memories for Kaim. Typical of his style, Shigematsu performed this task by writing over fifty short stories. As the player, you'll trigger these memories in Kaim as you play through Lost Odyssey, and while they don't form the main part of the game, they will give players a closer look at the main character.

Lost Odyssey Demo Finalized
Players will get hands on sample version in mid 2006.
by Anoop Gantayat

December 22, 2005 - Microsoft showed off a new trailer for Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey at last week's Jump Festival, but much to our disappointment, the footage consisted mostly of conceptual situations, with zero gameplay. Not to fear, though. Development on Lost Odyssey is coming along. It's so far along, in fact, that, according to the latest issue of Famitsu, Mistwalker will be distributing a playable demo version of the game to the Japanese market some time between spring and summer of 2006.

Regarding this announcement, company president Hironobu Sakaguchi comments to the magazine, "We're currently concentrating on developing the demo version. You'll be able to play mostly scenes near the beginning of the adventure."

Sakaguchi has previously made reference to a demo version of the title, but this is the first time we've heard of a time frame for its release. The timing suggests that we can expect a playable version to appear at E3 in May of next year.

Famitsu also has a screenshot which it claims to have been rendered on a real Xbox 360 dev kit. The shot shows the heroine, Seth, standing against a mountaintop background, the sparkling sea and a colorful sky visible in the distance. The screenshot is tiny, but the amount of detail and color in the shot is impressive, and leaves us wanting to get our hands on the game as soon as possible.
