Therion - Son of the Sun

off Sirius/Lemuria double CD

Im convinced that I may never need another band again. Therion is that good. Their early albums start out at extreme/death metal, then they progress to a hard melodic metal, then to flat out power metal with a flirtation of opera and classical thrown in. Then, on the album "Theli" they make the awesome transition to a full-on neo-classical/operatic power metal hybrid, with both full chorus and tenor solo operatic vocals, and orchestra. And of course, thundering double bass drums, keyboard, and clean/distorted electric guitar.

It seems as a given, both classical music and heavy metal are both powerful music forms in themselves, I'm just glad someone has finally gotten it right. Cradle and Dimmu play around with classical, but they dont fully meld and incorporate it into their music like Therion. And Therion doesnt fall into the stupid "Satan rut" either like they do, all their music is about magical systems and religions, mysticism, gods 'n goddesses etc.
